ELDERBLOOD - INTERVIEW

1. Elderblood born when Odalv Astargh and decided to start a new band and was subsequently added to Hagalth , how were the beginnings of the band and why they decided to name Elderblood for the group?

The idea of new band creation appeared far long before I left Nokturnal Mortum. I've always prefered fast and complicated music with an abundance of symphonic elements. We started rehearsing in November 2011. Hagalth joined us in December 2012 and spring that year we have been starting recording the album. I devised the name of the band in 2010. It is very capacious word. Elderblood means blood of Kingu the blood of man's creation. It is black flame which is binding link with primeval essence which is Chaos. Personally for me it is the symbol of guiding fire to the true light of Lucifer. 

2 . Since Elderblood was born in 2011 , you have already released your first album " Son of the morning ," How has the process of writing and recording of "Son of the morning ?" How is your way to work on the songs , all contribute ideas or is there a leader who decides ?

Till the moment of band creation all the material was done. We spent several months rehearsing and arranging the material and almost at once started recording the album. There is no special way of creation. Anybody may suggest his own idea: it may be riff, melody or drum part.

3 . The symphonic black lived its heyday a few years ago, What bands have inspired sound Elderblood What you think about bands like Cradle of Filth , Dimmu Borgir or Emperor ?

Bands that you just have mentioned for sure influenced our songs, but the most influenced I was by Queen ( and specifically Freddie Mercury )and Type'o'Negative other than that I listen to a lot of Russian classics (Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, etc.) and many symphonic arrangements were created under the influence of the works of these genius people.

4 . Turns out to be impossible , not to mention Elderblood make room for Ukrainian scene. How former members of Nockturnal Mortum , which meant that experience for you ?

Participation in Nokturnal Mortum gave experience of live and studio work, but most important is perfectionism while creating material the creation of numerous nuances in arranging and nontrivial thinking.

5. Besides Nockturnal Mortum scene of your country is riddled with interesting bands like Drudkh , Varggoth's projects or Munruthel ,  what can you tell us about the black metal scene of your country ?

For sure, you mentioned very talented bands, but Elderblood stands apart from the Ukrainian Black Metal scene, because of the Pagan metal bands dominance there. Too many people believe that Black Metal - is the path to the light. I want to point out a new black Metal generation. It's such bands as Nabaath, Kaosophia and Nahemoth.

6. With the perspective that gives the time and half a year after having released "Son of the morning", are you satisfied with the response from critics and the public ?

All reviews and reference are extremely positive, such a welcome from the public is very pleasant.

Thanks to these albums I started listening to Black Metal music. 

8. How did you get started in music and why you decided to dedicate yourself to be a musician?

I started to be engaged in music when I was 15, at the beginning I just wanted to learn how to play the songs of such bands as Metallica, Slayer and Death, then I created a band named Veil of Sin, we played our own songs. Even at that time I began to get involved in sound production and music became gradually not just a passion, but also work.

9. What brands of instruments do you use to record and brands that you are using at concerts ? Satisfied with the concerts offered ?

I like american guitars and in studio and live I use BC Rich Ironbird(Custom shop 1991) и Jackson Rhoads Custom (1995) and such amplifiers as Mesa/Boogie и ENGL.

10. Who designed the cover of "Son of the morning ?" How does it relate to the content of the album and what references ?

Album cover was created by Anna from Anomalous Art. To my mind she is the best designer on the territiory of CIS.She was able to feel the atmosphere of album and externalize it in visual images. Cover is completely related with idea of the album. It is release of spirit from terrestrial fetters, destroy of all illusions and old tables. It is rise through darkness and death to the true light of Lucifer. Anomalous-Art.com/ Annexare.com. anomalous.art@gmail.com

11. "Son of the morning" has been they published through Paragon Records , how the ability to edit through this label come about? Are you satisfied with the treatment received ?

We sent our promo materials to many labels and Paragon rec.'s offer was the one we accepted. Mike does good promotion of Elderblood and you can buy our disks all over the world. 

12. What future plans do you have for Elderblood about upcoming releases , concerts, etc. .. ?

We have many plans for 2014. First of all we are going to produce music video of "My Death" and DVD with our performing on  Oskorei Fest. Also we are going to take part in many concerts and produce new album.
