EVOL

DIES IRAE (2001)
Desconozco las pretensiones que tuvo en su día el encerrar bajo la denominación de recopilatorio las dos primeras demos de la banda "The Tale of the Horned King" de 1993 y "The Dark Dreamquest Part I" del año siguiente con el añadido de un par de temas en directo pero lo que queda claro es que estamos ante una banda con un sonido especial y que se desmarca en su propuesta de las tendencias imperantes en la época. Las demos suenan más crudas que lanzamientos posteriores a pesar de contar con teclados y tendencia a ambientación folk hay un mayor presencia de guitarras. A destacar las voces de  Princess of Disease que tienen una mayor presencia generando un buen contraste con las voces masculinas pero que redunda en un aire mágico y místico. Estas primeras composiciones nos muestran a una banda en claro proceso de formación, definiendo todavía su sonido. Tal vez en estas demos se haya gestado la esencia de un banda que nació en los albores del black pero que han sabido dar a su música unos matices y ambientación creo que bastantes únicos sin ser del todo reconocidos y apreciados. DREAMQUEST (1996)
Evol llegaba a su segundo larga duración después de un trabajo anterior que no había acabado de convencer a todos por igual. "Dreamquest" supone un viaje al medievo en su casi una hora de duración. El álbum es rico en matices, por todas partes podemos descubrir elementos atmosféricos y partes de teclado con un profundo sentimiento a edad media que acaba por atrapar al oyente en sus sonidos hasta transportarlo a esta época. Desde el comienzo se le ha dado importancia a las partes acústicas de las canciones que poco a poco van tejiendo un mundo de magia y fantasía creado por la banda transcendiendo la riqueza y misticismo del mismo. También podemos encontrar elementos del black en las partes más metaleras con bastantes influencias del thrash en las partes de guitarra. El apartado vocal es variado Prince of Agony se decanta por unas voces rasgadas por momentos pero no del todo brutales mientras que la aportación de Princess of Disease aporta un aura de misticismo y magia. En definitiva un álbum tremendamente rico en matices, que desprende un atmósfera medieval en cada nota pero que tal vez peca de variado en exceso y de confundir al oyente entre tanto matiz dejando un tanto de lado las partes más black para acabar siendo un tanto blando. MASTERIIS - INTERVIEW


1 Masteriis born in 2009 as a duo that remains today Morfahnus made ​​by you and both have been part of other bands, including agreeing on other members, why they decided to form Masteriis? For choosing this name Masteriis and offers regarding what other bands play? 
Ramnsvarturh: Hello, first of all, thanks a lot for this interview, we really appreciate that. Yes, Masteriis was born late of 2009 as a duo, consist of me and Morfahnus. Me and Morfahnus have played together in several bands since in the mid of the 90`s. We played togheter in Forlorn In Silence and Nebular Mystic. Morfahnus still play in Nebular Mystic today. We started Masteriis in 2009, cause it had been many years since we had played together, and we have always like the same style of music, so we wanted to make new material.

2 Masteriis has released a demo in 2010 and the EP "Dodsdom" in 2011, how is your way of composing and creating threads? 
Ramnsvarturh: Yes, we released our first two track demo in 2010. The first demo CD is limited to 250 hand-numbered copies. We still have some copies left, if someone are interested in it. You can hear the track “Dødsdom” on youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEJsfNPA3eE The debut MCD was released by Ewiges Eis Records. This MCD is hand-numbered to 500 copies. 3 The sound of the Norwegian black Masteriis recalls the years 90¿cuáles are your main musical influences and how they appreciate in your music? 
Ramnsvarturh: Our main influences are from the 90`s. I think some of the best Black Metal albums was released in the 90`s.For inspiration, and some important Norwegian Black Metal bands: Immortal, Darkthrone, Satyricon, Burzum, Gorgoroth, Ulver, Emperor, Mayhem (De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas) Dimmu Borgir(Old) And many others. 



4.What are the lyrics to the songs Masterris considered important and why write about it? 
Ramnsvarturh: The lyrics have always been important for me. Sometimes I Use very long time to write a song, other times I can use very short time. The lyrics from the MCD, deals with Norwegian Mythology and personal sorrows. If you take the song “Into Infiniti Darkness” the lyrics only deals with my personal sorrows. 

5 For mastering the Ep have had the Ex Dimmu Borgir Stian Aarstad how the possibility of having it emerged? Satisfied with the work done? 
Ramnsvarturh: We recorded and mixed everything with Stian Aarstad. For mastering we used a place in Oslo called Oslo Mastering, also many other Metal/Black Metal bands have done the mastering process there. Stian Aarstad has done a really great job for us, so we are very satisfied with all of his work. 

6 For the graphics Kogian Art, what do you want to convey with the album art and how it relates to music? 
Ramnsvarturh:Kogian Art did a great job with the cover art. I really hope we can use him in the future also. Since the MCD is called “Dødsdom”( Death Sentence) I think the cover fits both the lyrics and music very well.

7 Is there the possibility of a concert someday Masteriis? 
Ramnsvarturh: At the moment, we are only two members. But it would of course be interesting to play live with Masteriis in the future. We played gigs with Nebular Mystic, and that was really great. I`m a person that likes studio work best, but as I said live shows are great to. 

8. more than three years ago not editáis nothing new, soon will we see a split or edited album? 
Ramnsvarturh: Since the MCD, we have released 2 new songs, called “På Hedensk Jord” and “Pain In Silence” We have use both of the tracks for the Slowly We Rot Magazine(Compilation CD).

9 How did you get started in music? Is it easier to have a band of black in a country like yours? 
Ramnsvarturh: I think in the early days it was more easy. Especially if you played Black Metal. Now that Black Metal has been so big, I don’t think it is so “important” where you come from any longer. I remember I started to dream about making a band in a very you age, almost when I bought my first metal tapes. 

10 How does the possibility of working with the seal Ewiges Eis Records come about? Satisfied with the work done by the seal? Will you still linked in the future to Ewiges Eis Records? 
Ramnsvarturh: The contract, cooperation with Ewiges Eis has been very good. We are very happy with all the work and promotion they have done for us. We hope to release our future releases on Ewiges Eis.

AS FONTES DO NEGRUME (2013)

Hacia tiempo que me venían recomendando la escucha de esta banda de reciente formación y que su black death era digno de tener en cuenta. El proyecto dió comienzo como una entidad de un solo músico pero Rou viene contando desde hace unos años con Vindok en la batería. El Ep da comienzo con un intro oscura, siniestra y muy acorde con la descarga de alto nivel que nos encontramos a continuación por que "As fontes do negrume" le sobra tiempo en escasos veintiocho minutos para ofrecer material de calidad. Rou gusta de los ritmos pesados, de la violencia del death en clara conjunción con el black y a encontrado en Vidok el compañero perfecto para su propuesta. Afrontar la escucha de este Ep es sumergirse en un ambiente asfixiante de ocultismo y satanismo, rico en matices ya que Rou imprime violencia y brutalidad en su música pero deja lugar para riffs de guitarra que aportan frescura en medio de la tormenta sónica y permite apreciar todos los estilo que confluyen es su música y que van como comentaba antes de los más claros como el death y el black pero sin olvidarnos tampoco del doom o el thrash, ni que decir tiene que Vindok se curra una impresionante sección de batería a lo largo de cada tema. Las reminiscencias de bandas como Burzum o Celtic Frost están a la orden del día pero no debería de dejar de mencionar a los más cercanos Balmog. (8,8).

LITANY OF THE MOON (2013)
Shroud of Satan ha editado su primer Ep sin apenas aportar información adicional sobre la banda. El 
Ep está compuesto por cuatro temas que dan comienzo con una intro hablada y con órganos pra crear una ambientación de película de terror , pero está es la única concesión que ofrecen en su propuesta ya que su black metal es rápido con buenos riffs no exentos de cierto componente melódico, unas voces agresivas aportan frialdad y oscuridad a una propuesta que sin la aparición de teclados cuaja un black con una fuerte relación con la escena nórdica. A pesar de ser su primera grabación han logrado un buen equilibrio en cuanto a producción sonando correctos y sin adulterar en exceso y donde todos los instrumentos son reconocibles. Un Ep que acaba por sonar convincente, gracias unas composición es que se apoyan en unos excelentes riffs de guitarra y que sin llegar a ofrecer nada nuevo si que termina por convencer y agradar. HERETICAL - INTERVIEW


1 The origins of Heretical back to 1993, back then I denominations Immolator and during the three years of this band I served editing about three demos, how were those years of Immolator and creating the possibility of creating the band? 
AZMEROTH: We’re talking about the beginning of a great era, where band such Ancient Rites, Moonspell and many others moved the first steps. Years that will never come again, merciless years, black years. 

2 In 1996 Immolator comes to an end, the band's style becomes more symphonic and changes the name Heretical, although the bulk of the original members remain in the band, led do you change the name of the band and change somewhat the same musical style? 
AZMEROTH: If I remember correctly, there are two main reasons. The first regards the similarity with Immolation, and this situation didn’t satisfy us;  the second reason was about OWL (first bassist and co-founder of the band) that in 1996 was fired from the band taking for himself the merits of the band’s name and creating too much confusion. Therefore, to avoid future problems about the rights, we decided to change name in HERETICAL, taking inspiration directly from a famous song of Possessed, “the Heretic”. Surely the name Heretical fits more to the sound we have adopted over the years. Today the Heretical’s line-up is formed by Azmeroth - Guitars (Bass Studio;) Orias – Keyboards;  Nefarius – Vocals; Arymon – Drums and the newcomer Argus Szator – Guitars.

3 I guess all these changes within the group were not simple, serve as an example that the only original member are you, what happened in those years Heretical gradually the members were leaving the project and replaced by saw musicians? 
AZMEROTH: Yes. Unfortunately it isn’t easy to go ahead with a constant change of members, anyway the main reason was due to personal problems private and not for problems related to music. I still see some former members.

4 Heretical far has released three albums, an EP and a couple of Demos, how the sound of the band from the beginning with "De Occulta Philosophia" to your latest album "Dæmonarchrist - Dæmon Est Devs Inversvs" has evolved? 
AZMEROTH: Today we are much more violent and we don’t have keyboards in the foreground, the Heretical today are much more guitar oriented. The structure of the songs has radically changed. We don’t want to dwell, in the past it was normal to compose songs for 10-12 min, now we are  much more direct.

5 How was the process of writing and recording this "Dæmonarchrist - Dæmon Est Devs Inversvs"? Are all components contribute ideas or line is still set for you? 
AZMEROTH: I’m the main composer. There wasn’t a particular process of composition. It was the inspiration to carry me

6 Why did you choose to Fabio Monaco Empathy Studios Sound of Stockholm for the production of the album? Satisfied with the work he has done? 
AZMEROTH: We are 100% satisfied, Fabio and Empathy studios were perfect for the sound we wanted in "Dæmonarchrist - Dæmon Est Devs Inversvs", the disc has a devastating production.

7 I guess after all these years Heretical influences are varied, while you certainly will be referring to more than one group, what are your main musical influences and why you consider important? 
AZMEROTH: I listen to metal for many years, it isn’t easy to say who  inspired/influenced me. Some groups important for my musical education are Venom, Bathory, Death SS Sarcophagus, but also other bands such as Dark Fields of the Nephilim.



8 Can it be that the album revolves around a conceptual history? How influential is for you the occult philosophy and suicide present in varying degrees in your texts? 
AZMEROTH: Usually our CD are the concept, while "Dæmonarchrist - Dæmon Est Devs Inversvs" is not a concept album, it has a theme that is present in all of his songs, that is evil inside the Christian church. Talks of opposites and of the plot between good and evil. If we examine carefully the title, is nothing more than the union of three appearances, in contrast with each other constantly travelling in one direction: THE DEMON (CORRUPTION), THE MONARCH (DEATH) and CHRIST (THE PASSION) . Our goal isn’t to profane the sacred rites of Christian worship, we seek only to redefine the Christian symbolism and occult, contrasting to one another.

9 Take more than two decades as a musician in the world of black, how did you get started and you want to boost play black metal? How has the black metal scene in Italy over the years What bands consider important within the Italian scene?
AZMEROTH: I started playing black metal for devotion to the darkness. It’s a thing that you must have inside since birth. I always say "I will die black metaller”.  The Italian scene will never grow, it’s a problem for us, because  Italians can’t support us at each other. The bands that deserve respect within black metal are the Mortuary Drape, Necromass and Opera IX.

10 Will the day that the album "Ego Sum Papa" to be edited? 
AZMEROTH: Didn’t reflected the Heretical sound, it was nearest to death metal sound. For this reason was never released.

11 Who designed the cover of "Dæmonarchrist - Dæmon Est Devs Inversvs" and how it relates to the content of the album? 
AZMEROTH: The artwork is the work of the talented French artist Pierre-Alain D., great artist who has been able to develop perfectly the theme of "Dæmonarchrist - Dæmon Est Devs Inversvs".

12 Paragon Records has released the album, Satisfied with the treatment received and the impact it is having the album in the media?
AZMEROTH: The album was released in the USA by Paragon while in Europe by Beyond Productions, but I honestly expected more especially in terms of promotion.

13 What future plans do you have for Heretical about upcoming releases, concerts, etc. ..? 
AZMEROTH:  No new album for at least a year, we would to reprint  our first EP Shub=Niggurath by the addition of 4 bonus, and definitely a split with a historic Sicilian band.

Primer Ep para los noruegos Masteriis en donde ofrecen cuatro pistas de black melódico y frío muy en la línea de las bandas nouegas de referencia. En realidad solo dos temas son nuevos ya que los otros dos ya estaban incluidos en su anterior Promo. En cuanto a sonido no ofrecen nada nuevo en cuanto a estilismo pero si que el Ep está bastante bien trabajo y siempre es de agradecer poder disfrutar de unas composiciones en donde puedes ver influencias de las bandas noruegas que forjaron el estilo hace dos décadas. Temas variados, con buenos e inspirados riffs de guitarra de base melódica, la batería también a dejado su impronta y marca el paso de los temas, en cuanto a las voces se decantan por una orientación en líneas generales agresiva, pero lo que acaba por trascender es la ambientación gélida que desprenden en cada tema. Esperemos que este no haya sido el último lanzamiento de la banda y que pronto puedan volver con nuevos temas pues las sensaciones transmitidas son buenas. (7,9).

PANOPTICON


ROADS TO THE NORTH (2014)
Con cada disco que va editando Lunn bajo el nombre de Panopticon está consiguiendo acrecentar el intereses hacia este proyecto. Desde el lejano 2007 que comenzaron los primeros pasos de Panopticon a cada disco que pasa se nota una madurez increíble y si el salto de calidad que ya pudimos apreciar en "Kentucky" era memorable este "Roads of the North" se puede clasificar como uno de los lanzamientos imprescindibles en cuanto a black atmosférico de este año. Con una mayor preocupación por temas históricos y por elementos folk y de contacto con la naturaleza, Lunn a logrado un mezcla interesantes de todos estos elementos en este álbum en donde se dan cita y se ven representados por excelentes momentos de black en su vertiente más atmosférica, aunque mezclado también con post-rock, un álbum que en líneas generales no es contemplativo, discurre rápido y violento pero dejando espacio para breves momentos sosegados en los cuales podemos encontrar instrumentación folk e inclusos voces limpias en contraste con la tónica general del álbum que no es otra que la agresividad. Un álbum que acerca a Panopticon en su música a propuestas del metal nórdico pero que sobre todo trasciende como una obra inmensa en la que el oyente se ve sumergido en un viaje hacia el norte. MOURNFUL EMBRACE OF AEONS (2012)
Segundo larga duración para esta banda estadounidense de black sinfónico. Un álbum de atmósferas densas y ambientes sobrecargados. Un álbum que a pesar de todo ello logra mantener la atención del oyente en todo momento gracias al buen hacer en cuanto a instrumentación. Todo estas orientado a la vertiente más sinfónica y melódica del género, buenos riffs de guitarra con una clara orientación melódica, un batería imparable marcando majestuosamente la intensidad de la propuesta, voces la mayoría de las veces agresivas y rasgadas y una presencia constante de teclados que eleva el carácter sinfónico de la propuesta. Un álbum por encima de su anterior obrar, ganando en producción y claridad de ideas, recomendado para cualquier seguidor del black sinfónico digamos que en su vertiente más clásica. Un álbum que Mysteriarch ha sabido madurar a conciencia en estos últimos años, que aunque no resulte muy variado si que logra enganchar por mantener en todo momento el pulso a una propuesta sinfónica y que a sabido ganar adeptos con un orientación clásica.
