OTOTEMAN (2014)

Interesante debut de la banda Entheos, precedentes de la siempre fructífera escena de Quebec, y que entregan un black metal un tanto alejado de la vertiente más clásica del género, para adentrarse en terrenos más complejos e innovadores. "Ototeman" esta compuesto de siete temas que superan los cincuenta minutos, es decir, en lineas generales los temas son extensos lo que permite la construcción de atmósferas frías y lúgubres. Pero no solo de esta frialdad de atmósferas se nutre Entheos, su sonido va mucho más allá y el oyente puede disfrutar de la complejidad del mismo ya que él se dan cita elementos progresivos, doom, sobre todo en la densidad del sonido, pero también un cierto regusto punk presente en la visceralidad de ciertos momentos, tampoco renuncian a una cierta melodía en segundo plano o en lagunas melodías de guitarra limpia en medio del caos. Pertenecientes, sin lugar a dudas, al elenco de nuevas formaciones que están aportando una visión diferente al género,que puede gustar más o menos, pero que siempre resulta digna de atención. Hay que destacar también la buena producción arrancada a este álbum y reconocer la profesionalidad de los componentes al conseguir un sonido increíble. (8,3).

Few debut albums conjure the sort of rabid anticipation that has developed around Martire’s “Brutal Legions of the Apocalypse.” Until now, this album seemed to be one of those legendary recordings that would remain forever buried. Although recorded years ago, this album sounds every bit as unique as fans of Martire would expect. Indeed, listening to this record now it sounds as if, by delaying this release for so many years, Martire were simply giving the rest of the scene a chance to catch up. And, yet, “Brutal Legions of the Apocalypse” demonstrates that Martire are still far ahead of their peers. This is a disorienting album in the best way possible. Martire routinely employ unconventional time signatures and constantly engage in dizzying start/stop exercises. For many, primitive bestiality and technical virtuosity represent the opposite ends of a spectrum. Martire, however, reconcile these two extremes to tremendous effect. Martire’s exhibition of technical prowess should not surprise anyone who is familiar with the other bands with which the members of Martire are involved. (These include Tzun Tzu, Cauldron Black Ram, StarGazer, and Mournful Congregation to name but a few.) Martire adeptly apply this technical skill in the service of soul crushing savagery. The bestial veneer that adorns much of Australia’s output is thickly applied to this recording without obscuring any of the music’s complexity. Conversely, unlike so many “technical” bands, the fervor of Martire’s attack is never diluted by pointless showmanship. The elements of Martire’s sound work in tandem. The production may be the key to Martire’s music and to the degree that the delay in the release of this record was due to the band’s efforts to ensure perfect production, it seems that their efforts have paid off. All of the instruments are sufficiently separated in the mix so that nothing is obscured. The guitars are wisely left just below the surface of the percussive rumble of the drums and the vocals are loud enough to augment the ferocity of the music. Considering the strength of Martire’s catalog, it must have been daunting for the band to take up the task of recording a full-length album that could live up to the promise of their earlier releases, but “Brutal Legions of the Apocalypse” meets and surpasses any and all expectations that one could have developed in the many years since Martire’s last emanation.

BORN AGAINST (2014)

Tercer larga duración para los de Indiana en donde han optada para la ocasión por unos temas más extensos dentro de su habitual propuesta. La música ofrecida es un black metal influenciado tanto por el heavy clásico como por el doom, pero sin optar por una posición sencilla, todo lo contrario, "Born Against" es un álbum complejo y caótico, alejado de cualquier patrón preestablecido en el género y en donde una extraña sensación de agobio y asfixia va invadiendo al oyente que se ve inmerso en la vorágine de la propuesta. Por momentos podemos apreciar claras influencias del heavy clásico que se ven acompañadas de la robustez del bajo, instrumento muy presente en todo el álbum, al mismo tiempo que la característica y salientable voz de Luathca que realiza un gran trabajo en todo el álbum en una línea cercana al death. En definitiva, cinco temas con un sonido complejo, aunque en una línea black-doom pero alejada de cualquier patrón y que sin lugar a dudas tiene en el directo su mayor valedor. (7,6).

Unhuman Disease son los encargados de cerrar este split con otros dos temas de black metal infecto y violento a partes iguales. Nocturnus Dominus sigue una línea similar a o ofrecido por Sarkrista, es decir black con un sonido clásico y violento pero con una cierta dosis de melodía en segundo plano, sin embargo si que se propuesta es bastante más cruda y brutal y aunque hay ciertos elementos en su sonido que ofrecen cierta melodía llama especialmente la atención la ambientación, mucho más tétrica y oscura, casi que opresiva en ciertos puntos, así como algunos interludios en los temas que acercan al oyente a una sensación cercana a la locura y la desesperación. Un split en líneas generales que muestra a un par de bandas con unas ideas bastantes similares en cuanto a la forma de entender el black metal y que agradará a la vertiente más clásica y cruda de la escena. MYSTERIA MORTIS - INTERVIEW

1.      Although the band was created in 2010 the process to achieve a stable line seems to have been laborious, because until the release of your first album there were a lot of changes within the group, why did you decide to create the band and why choose Mysteria Mortis name?

Band birth is December, 2010. We was decide to create the band because we dream about to make music, make good music. We love the mythology and value the traditions and knowledge of our ancestors. We understand that it is very important - to transfer this to music. Mysteria Mortis name it mean that only Death have ancient knowledge’s, and it mean that these knowledge it’s big Mystery for people in our real life. It’s mystic name for band.

2.      What so many comings and goings was due to the members of the band in its early? Today Mysteria Mortis already has a training guarantees?

I think that it just was time when we are get up from knees, took our first steps. In such a small town as ours it was very difficult to find good musicians. But this time absolutely behind. Now we have in group are excellent musicians, and we was already plays in two music metal tours, was play in China with Scorpions, Artillery bands in one scene. It was great for us!) It was Chinese tour in April-may 2015 and Russian metal tour in Jule and August 2015.

3.      In 2013 you edit your first album "Воды Тунд", how was the process of writing and recording? What is your way of working in the studio?

Yes, it’s right. In may 2013 we are released our first debut album «Tund’s water». It was hard but interesting process for us. It was first experience of recording. Every member was to criticize his work, but we was should to do it. we didn't have drummer and have a small money for make first album… that’s why you can hear electron drums in first album. It’s very cheap album but this album made with our hearts, love and souls.

4.      What are your main musical influences when composing as reflected in your music?

I think that our music now it like a mixture of black, pagan, folk, melodic death metal, epic metal and speed metal with clean and extremely female voice, extremely male voice and folklorist texts. So many fans told that we have a new folk style of music, something like «speed melodic folk» or just “new folk metal”.

5.      The texts revolve around the Nordic and Slavic mythology and paganism, why you chose this subject and that issues are what you are most interested in Norse mythology?

We very like mythology because we think that it’s really interesting. Mythology told us about tradition and legends of our ancestors. I think that there is no lies, because this is just a history, really great history passed from generation to generation. This is amazing stories and we should to know and save it. All of this dear to our hearts… we should to talk about it to all people.

6.      Do you think your geographical origin may be a handicap when it comes to reaching your audience? Is there an extreme scene in your town and bands recommend?

It really big handicap for all bands from our town, but it not problem for us. we are very stubborn, that’s why we don’t scared long way to big towns. We have a small extreme scene in our town and all band is such beginning… no more. We cannot recommend band from our town, but we can recommend folk band «Волколак» from Blagoveshensk.

7.      Anette Olzon or Angela Gonssow, to name a few, have you been a reference for you to decide to you to get started as a vocalist in a band?

I am very love Anette Olzon and Angela Gossow! Anette Olzon is mezzo soprano and 2.5 octaves, I am too have mezzo soprano and 3 octaves but only 2,5 octaves which I used in Mysteria Mortis now. And I am very love Elisa Martin (ex Dark Moor), she is like my teacher! All of these vocalist it like good example for me. But, besides I am very love Kimberly from Sinergy band. She was amazing singer! And when I was small girl my mom bought me Nightwish first album «Angel fall first». It was something new for me! Tarja Turunens voice sounds like something majestic…it was day when I starts to want to be a singer in metal band. I dreamed told to Nightwish musician and Sinergy’s musician for my childhood. I think that Finnish metal scene  had an impact on me and on our guitar player and to keyboardist.

8.      Maybe your musical affinity has more to do with bands like Tengger Cavalry, with other western bands?

Maybe you right. Maybe affinity more with Falcenbach, Nightwish, Amon Amarth, Enciferum… I don’t know….

9.      Recently the band has to do two tours one for Russia and another for China, how was this experience? Is it important the issue of giving concerts to promote the band?

Yes, it was great experience for us! It was really nice time which our musicians can spend together like one family! Yes, it is very important giving concerts for promote the band. We have a more fans now than it was without tours. Our team is preparing new tours for our band. We will never stop. Our fans waiting us again and again!) And we happy be in tours.

10.     Tell us a bit were your beginnings as the music, first concerts, first cds and I miss you guessed that dedicarais to be musicians?

First concerts was in another towns which situated not far from our home like Khabarovsk and Vladivostok. First cd it’s our first album… I was go to school choir, our keyboardist was student in musical school. Our drummers start to play in his first metal bands, and our guitar player start to play in guitar in 14 or 15 years old…

11.     What other activities outside mysteria Mortis occupy your time?

I write books of other genres and teach vocal, Nikita (guitar player) is university’s student. Our keyboardist Sema is end college, Roman – drummer is teaches another metal heads to play in drums.

12.     Both your logo as the album contains the figure of a dragon, who is the design that mean to you?

This logo made by girl from Vladivostok – Svetlana Corf. She was our designer for first album’s logo. But now we have a talented painter in our band – Dark Crusader (Maxim) from Novosibirsk. He was already made a new beautiful logo! Dragon it’s a very clever and great sky kings of ancient time, it mean divine wisdom for us.

13.     "Воды Тунд" was released on CD by Russian label More Hate Productions, how the possibility of this issue arose? Satisfied with the work done by More Hate Productions?

I want to say that More hate Producitions is really good and kind label for metal bands. they did not ask money from us, like many another Russian’s labels. They are was interested to work with us. We are very pleasure to this label and very glad to work with them. Alex Kantemirov – is really good guy! Because he is understand metal musician and he is very loyalty.  They are sale all copies of our first album, they are glad to work with us too.

14.     You are already lowering a new song that will surely be published next year, what do we tell you about the new songs, editing, etc?

It will something new from Mysteria Mortis. It was really good work for us, we spend many time for this. It will live drums, good mastering, all 2,5 octaves of my voice, choirs, interesting and hard guitars and epic keyboards! It will interesting booklet with illustrations for all songs. It will new true metal merch, and new tours for helped album. It will like new interesting page in bands history. This will be no the creativity of children who take their first steps. It will new art from really good musicians which have a so many ideas for came to people and make a big gift for our fans.

La trayectoria de Sarkrista podemos calificarla prácticamente de intachable desde sus inicios, black metal que busca sus influencias en las años noventa y sobre todo en todo lo que tiene que ver con la escena escandinava. Su contribución a este compartido se ciñe a un par de temas, con el sonido tan característico del combo, riffs afilados y sucios con una capa de melodía en segundo plano, unas voces agresivas y violentas que aportan la frialdad y oscuridad que impregna su música, junto con la crudeza de la batería que acompañan en todo momento. Casi que podemos estar asistiendo a una formula que no por sencilla acaba por convencer y sobre todo el segundo tema "The Sea pt. 1 (Rise of Leviathan)" es Sarkrista en estado pudo. Una banda que desde su inicial "The Acheronian Worship" de hace un par de años viene demostrando calidad y actitud en todos y cada uno de sus lanzamientos. (8,5).

THE HORROR OF OLD (2015)

Ep de cuatro temas para esta nueva banda procedente de Irlanda, cuatro temas de un black metal oscuro y pesado en donde un vertiente doom impera en cada nota, terminando por ofrecer un Ep con un regusto lúgubre y sucio. No debemos pasar por alto que estamos ante el primer lanzamiento del combo y hay que destacar la calidad del mismo, "The Horrors of Old" es un trabajo cuidado, en donde podemos disfrutar de atmósferas oscuras en un segundo plano, en medio de las densidad del sonido también podemos apreciar ciertas melodías tristes y agonizantes, todo ello para poder decir que estamos sin lugar a dudas ante unos de los debuts más interesantes de lo que va de año, y una banda con un potencial fuera de toda duda. Hay banda que con la primera escucha el oyente ya sabe que está ente algo especial y eso es lo que sucede desde la intro de este Ep, en donde uno sabe que va a asistir a algo diferente y especial. Black metal en su vertiente más densa, repleto de una ambientación algo opresiva pero no exenta de cierta melancolía, tal vez un tanto monótono en ciertos apartados pero creo que también necesario. BESTIAL INVOCATION (2015)

Primer larga duración para la banda canadiense que aúna en su propuesta elementos del black metal con otros en clara referencia a un death metal técnico. El resultado final es del todo convincente, en su sonido predomina el componente death en la mayoría de los temas, buena presencia de riffs de guitarra con una orientación melódica en la mayoría de los casos y buen aporte de la batería, ejecutada de manera precisa pero sin inundar con su presencia el resultado final, ya que si una cosa queda clara en este álbum es el buen sonido ofrecido, pudiendo apreciar los diferentes aspectos de su propuesta. Eso si las voces, la mayoría de las veces se adentrar en terrenos del death, con una fuerte presencia de la brutalidad, pero también ofreciendo al algunas partes una vertiente más agresiva y oscura. A diferencia de las típicas bandas de black death que se centran mucho en la brutalidad y contundencia de su sonido, Vile Insignia tiran más hacia un black death en donde han dejado sitio para una atmósfera oscura y siniestra, pero sobre todo han dejado hueco para que cada instrumento respire y el oyente pueda disfrutar de un sonido rico y variado, que en ciertas partes se adentra en terrenos más progresivos o post, pero que siempre agradarán a seguidores del death más técnico y del black. THRONE OV PERDITION (2014)

Ep de tres temas con los que la one man band Azerine se da a conocer. Su estilo se encuadra dentro de la vertiente más ortodoxa y clásica del género, sonando como las bandas de comienzos de los noventa. Esto es, sonido crudo tanto en voces como en la música, de ritmo lento y ritualista, con una fuerte presencia del ocultismo en todo el conjunto. Cualquiera de los tres temas aquí ofrecidos está exento de cualquier artificio moderno y parecen anclados en hace unos 25 años, ritmo pesado y monótono con algunas buenas arrancadas de blast-beats y con una tendencia hacia la melodía en las guitarras, pero siempre desde la mayor de las crudezas y desde un patrón totalmente clásico. MYSTERIUM CONIUNCTIONIS (2014) 

Con la inclusión de lo últimos tres temas, Malepeste cierra este compartido. Podríamos calificarl su música como de un tanto continuista con lo ofrecido por sus compañeros de split, pero Malepeste lleva su propuesta un paso más allá ofreciendo un black mucho más oscuro, teniendo como puntos fuertes el ocultismo y una atmósfera totalmente ritualista. Su música responde más a los patrones clásicos del género, discurriendo por terrenos lentos y sombríos, casi que opresivos, las líneas de guitarra y bajo van encadenado riffs pesados y oscuros que se ven complementados por las voces putrefactas de Larsen, todo ello para desprender un halo ritualista, muy presente en todas las composiciones. Un split que de manera soberbia recoge al buen hacer de estas dos bandas. (8,4).

MYSTERIUM CONIUNCTIONIS (2014)

Compartido entre Krowos y los franceses Malepeste. El split se abre con una intro compuesta entre las dos bandas, que ciertamente crea ya un ambiente sombrío e inquietante. A continuación Krowos se cobra los tres primeros temas de un black metal frío, y muy oscuro con claros componentes depresivos, sobre todo en el segundo tema "The God of the Eternal Sand", de ritmo lento y casi que enfermizo. Por otro lado tanto "The Revelation of the Vases", como "The Abyss of Perdition" son temas más rápidos y dinámicos, que se sostienen en elementos casi que repetitivos en cuanto a estructuras pero que se acercan más un sonido de black clásico, eso si poniendo énfasis en una ambientación casi que ritualista y muy fría, sin perder de vista tampoco unos riffs de clara referencia melancólica. Tres temas que siguen la línea marcada por su "Enthroning Our End" y que mantienen al combo en una posición privilegiada dentro de la escena. (8,2).

SORROW AND PSYCHOPATHIUM CONSUMMATE (2015)

Nueva entrega para la one man band afincada en Texas, que si por algo se ha caracterizado hasta estos momentos es por ofrecer un black muy personal, repleto de elementos psicóticos e inquietantes. El camino elegido por Lord Sar Nath Hypnosia no es sencillo, su música se aleja de lo establecido para centrarse en construir una música envolvente, de atmósfera cargada y asfixiante. Aquí podemos encontrar casi cincuenta minutos de black en su vertiente más sucia gracias a una producción que se centra en construir ese ambiente psicótico y claustrofóbico marca de la casa. El autor no duda en incluir elementos industriales y electrónicos para lograr la ambientación que quiere, pero lo cierto es que en esta trabajo se ha producido una evolución, sobre todo en las guitarras que han copado ciertas facetas antes más olvidadas, aportando en ciertos puntos algo de melodía que anteriormente no estaba tan presente y que contrapone de manera magistral con la disonancia y brutalidad de su música. Estamos ante un álbum que para todo seguidor de la banda y para aquellos que disfruten con la vertiente más experimental del género le agradará en sobre manera ya que Sar Nath se está haciendo un hueco en al escena a base de entregar de manera regular pedazos de álbumes como este.
