DEVOURING RUIN (2020)

Con unos inicios musicales en los cuales su estilo giraba en torno al grind/crust, la banda canadiense ha ido evolucionando a lo largo de estos años hacia terrenos más acordes a un black/death, que en cierta medida aún guardan ciertas influencias de su anterior época, pero que también suponen un paso adelante en cuanto a nuevos sonidos, arriesgando en algunos aspectos. Un álbum que suena compacto, violento, directo y muy contundente que sin embargo comienza con "Dissolve and Release" que de manera acertada tiene un mayor componente atmosférico en el cuerpo de la canción. Hablamos de atmósferas porque la apuesta de Wake en este "Devouring Ruin", es arriesgada, en el sentido que los sonidos black/death y la fiereza de las composiciones son indiscutibles, pero también es cierto que han sabido cuadrar en un segundo plano y atmósfera de densa y absorbente, atreviéndose por momentos con algunos arranque melódicos que podrían hacernos recordar influencias doom en su música. Un nuevo trabajo que nos muestra una banda en constante evolución, transitando por diferentes estilo dentro del metal extremo y cuyo techo parece aún muy lejano. (7,7).
