BLOOD RITUAL (1992)

Segundo larga duración para la suizos y desde luego álbum de referencia dentro de la escena black, sobre todo por la gran influencia que llegó a tener en la evolución de la escena, recordemos que en aquella época el black todavía no era un estilo totalmente consagrado y Samael supieron recoger las influencias de bandas como Hellhammer y Celtic Frost para acabar por asentar las bases del género y su posterior eclosión. En cuanto al sonido de este álbum se le puede llegar a tachar de un tanto simplista, es cierto que no estamos ante un elenco de riffs variados y las canciones son bastantes similares entre si, pero esto no es impedimento para que asistamos a todo un despliegue de medios, en donde la influencia del thrash más clásico está muy presente. Pero lo que realmente llama la atención es el ritmo lento y pesado de las composiciones, todo un acercamiento al doom del época y a Candlemass en particular, pero también es significativo el ambiente ritualista que emana todo el álbum. La influencia de Samael en la creación y posterior consagración de un género como el black metal esta fuera de toda duda, pertenecen a la época inicial de la escena en donde la delgada línea entre thrash y black no estaba del todo definida y con álbumes como este comenzaron a sentar cátedra.
