DEVOURING RUIN (2020)

Con unos inicios musicales en los cuales su estilo giraba en torno al grind/crust, la banda canadiense ha ido evolucionando a lo largo de estos años hacia terrenos más acordes a un black/death, que en cierta medida aún guardan ciertas influencias de su anterior época, pero que también suponen un paso adelante en cuanto a nuevos sonidos, arriesgando en algunos aspectos. Un álbum que suena compacto, violento, directo y muy contundente que sin embargo comienza con "Dissolve and Release" que de manera acertada tiene un mayor componente atmosférico en el cuerpo de la canción. Hablamos de atmósferas porque la apuesta de Wake en este "Devouring Ruin", es arriesgada, en el sentido que los sonidos black/death y la fiereza de las composiciones son indiscutibles, pero también es cierto que han sabido cuadrar en un segundo plano y atmósfera de densa y absorbente, atreviéndose por momentos con algunos arranque melódicos que podrían hacernos recordar influencias doom en su música. Un nuevo trabajo que nos muestra una banda en constante evolución, transitando por diferentes estilo dentro del metal extremo y cuyo techo parece aún muy lejano. (7,7).

SCION OF AETHER (2020)

Con una extensas trayectoria a sus espaldas y que sin embargo sigue conservando después de todos estos años ese aura underground y enigmática y con un periodo de casi ocho entre sus dos últimos trabajos, los estadounidenses Velnias presentan su tercer larga duración "Scion of Aether" donde a través de los seis temas que lo conforman llevan su sonido blackened folk/doom metal a nuevos terrenos. La propuesta de Velnias siempre ha resultado atractiva y diferente y aun álbum como su anterior "RuneEater" sirvió para hacerles un hueco en las bandas de black con influencias atmosféricas, doom y temáticas que giran en torno a elementos de la naturaleza. Sin embargo en este nuevo trabajo han incorporado sonoridades e influencias de estilos como el sludge, el post rock, el stoner y el hard rock, que al ser combinados con el black/doom de sus inicios, da como resultado un trabajo denso, pastoso, de sonido inclasificable, en donde las atmósferas de soledad y frialdad compan a sus anchas. Capaces también de ofrecer largos desarrollos en su música que los aproximan al stoner, al tiempo que no pierden la densidad y la carga de pesadumbre que se le supone a un género como el doom. Incluso en el apartado vocal, se han permitido que muchas partes de su música se haya desprendido de él, para dejar fluir un tono evocador de oscuridad que se ve empujado hacia tonos graves, profundos y lodosos cunado hacen su aparición las voces de P.J.V.. Resulta incuestionable que los de Nederland han parido un trabajo repleto de recovecos en los cuales perderse, profundo, lodoso, oscuro y denso. (7,6).

Tercer proyecto en el cual se implica D.L., y que viene de editar los cinco tema en formato demo que componen este "Affirmation of Antipathy", que se mueve por terrenos del black/punk. Un primer lanzamiento que se aleja de cualquier influencia o sonido que tenga que ver con el black más ortodoxo, para dejarse conducir sobre todo por la parte más punk de su propuesta. Ritmos agresivos, veloces y rasposos están presentes desde el comienzo de "Fever Seize" en donde D.L. ha sabido construir un ambiente crudo y denso de la mano de afiladas guitarras superpuestas en ácidas capas de crudeza, con una batería de ritmo impetuoso de principio a fin y unas voces rasgadas, llenas de intensidad y crudeza. No podemos buscar en un trabajo como este la esencia del black, ni mucho menos estamos ante una demo que vaya a revolver la escena, pero si es cierto que este "Affirmation of Antipathy" puede sonar atemporal, dentro de las premisas del metal extremo. Primera toma de contacto con este enigmático proyecto germano de black atmosférico, con influencias post. Este primer trabajo consta de tres extensos temas, los cuales ninguno baja de los diez minutos, permitiendo disfrutar de largos desarrollos en su música. Firmament arremete con un black con muchas influencias post, intercalando partes explosivas y agresivas con otras más lentas e intimistas, sin embargo en todo lo que rodea a su música suena frío y desgarrado, como las voces. No podemos pasar por alto tampoco las influencias atmosféricas en su música que para el caso que nos ocupa se centran en aspecto relacionados con el espacio y la vacuidad, dejando sensaciones de frialdad y soledad. Las sensaciones que deja en el oyente este trabajo son ambiguas, por un lado tenemos las que reflejan las partes más atmosféricas, capaces de sumergirnos en la inmensidad de la nada más absoluta, sin embargo cuando entra en acción las partes más metálicas su melodía sucinta se antoja llena de rabia, crudeza, frialdad e incluso sufrimiento. NO DAWN FORM MEN (2020)

Álbum debut para este combo estadounidense de black metal atmosférico. Un álbum que se puede sentir como alejado de los temas clásicos dentro del black, pero sin embargo casa a la perfección con el tono irreverente y molesto del que tiene que hacer gala el género, solo hay que prestar atención al título. El álbum consta de ocho temas, aunque tres de ellos ya formaban parte de su EP "The Age of Men Is Over". En cuanto al álbum se abre con "Illa, Mother of Death" un extenso tema con elementos ambientales, acertadod arreglos de instrumentos de cuerda y viento, sustentados con un buen trabajo a las voces, agresivas y oscuras. El tono de este tema contiene las principales virtudes de la música de Feminazgûl, no estamos ante un black contundente, juegan con espacios intimistas y melódicos al tiempo que melancólicos la mayor parte de las veces, y un tema que parece que tiene un tono más sosegado y discreto, de repente se desboca en un torrente de violencia y contundencia, siendo esta dualidad un apartado muy importante en su música. No podemos pasar por alto tampoco el sonido, repleto de elementos atmosféricos que se van colando poco a poco y que si bien en primer momento no se les da importancia que tienen, tenemos que acabar por reconocer que dotan al sonido de este álbum de un apartado siniestro y denso, con un trasfondo de inquietud y desasosiego, reprepleto de aquelarres e invocaciones. Un álbum correcto de black atmosférico, que tiene mucha personalidad, comenzando por la temática. (7,6).

MISANTHROSOPHIE (2020)

"Misanthrosophie", supone el regreso del combo germano después de casi seis años de silencio, situándose como su quinto larga duración. Estamos ante un álbum extenso, de nueve temas, que sin lugar a dudas es todo un golpe en la cara del oyente. Membaris ofrece un sonido ampuloso, directo y a veces violento, voces agresivas y batería a todo trapo, acompañado todo ellos por unos riffs  de corte melódico en la mayoría de los casos. Sin embargo este "Misanthrosophie" logra sobresalir por encima de la media gracias a la riqueza de sonido que encierra, no estamos ante un álbum de sonido clásico, ni mucho menos ortodoxo, pero si que en sus interior encierra las influencias del black de la seguna ola, sobre todo si hablamos de influencias melódicas, siendo estas influencias mezcladas con otras más actuales, lo que hace del sonido del álbum algo inclasificable, sonando fresco. Podemos destacar que el álbum suena compacto, directo y melódico, eso nadie lo discute, pero también está lleno de interesantes cambios de ritmo que permiten variar la intensidad de mismo y alternar momentos de mayor intensidad y agresividad con otros más épicos o contemplativos, siendo también la inclusión de algunas voces limpias un apartado fundamental a la hora de conseguir esta alternancia de sensaciones a lo largo del álbum, dejando un regusto a oscuridad y podredumbre. EMISSARY AND VESSEL (2020)

Carta de presentación en forma de álbum completo para esta enigmática one man band? inglesa que nos ofrece ocho temas. Hay que reconocer que la primera impresión al comenzer el álbum es un tanto desconcertante, pues el ritmo se mantinne en un tono constante y parece que los temas no acaban de arrancar, sin embargo al poco comienzas a apreciar el reguero de buenos riffs solapadas en capas que acompañan a la composiciones y las voces acaban por atraerte hacia el lado oscuro y enfermeizo. Si que es cierto, que no estamos ante un álbum rápido ni directo, la agresividad se encuentra encerrada en un segundo plano, pero hay que reconocer el enerme trabajo realizado para trasladarnos hacia terrenos ocultistas, la música funciona como un mantra y esa primera impresión de intimismo y melódia, esconde mucha frialdad y acaba por funionar como una obra ritualista. No podemos pasar por alto que las inlfuencias del rock ocultista de grandes desarrollos e influencias post también juega un papel importante en el conjunto de este álbum qye aun siendo black, se sustenta en estas influencias de sonidos más clásicos y viene a regenerar de una forma diferente el vacío de nuevas bandas son un enfoque tan logrado del ocultismo.
