NIGHT CROWNED - INTERVIEW

1. Night Crowned was born in 2016, why did you decide to create the band? Why did you choose the name Night Crowned and what does it refer to?

H. Liljesand founded Night Crowned and his vision was to create music he grew up with so he started Night Crowned not long after some of the first demo track was made J. Jaloma joined in on drums along with his childhood friend J. Eskilsson and a while later I (K. Romlin) joined. We created what we like with our music with a lot of inspiration from the 90s black and death metal scen and regarding the name Night Crowned, it is a celebration of the night it self.

2. Since its creation in 2016, the band has shown a high activity, at the beginning with the release of Eps and singles but more recently with the release of two albums in a short space of time, how has the resulting confinement influenced of the Covid-19 situation why would you face the whole process of writing and recording your second album so quickly?

When I joined Night Crowned we had four songs recorded for the EP but we saved the best for our debut album som we just released three songs to show what we got. And we had a lot more songs written and it became our debut album ’’Impius Viam’’ so the writing process never ended after the ep we just kept writing. The down side was when we released ’’Impius Viam’’ the covid-19 hit the world and we could not promote the album with live shows. So we made a three year plan to release 3 albums in tree years. Any how we started to write ’’Hädanfärd’’ compare to ’’Impius Viam’’ which was more like a collection of songs that was put into an album, our intentions with ’’Hädanfärd’’ was to write a whole album. Both albums are written and recorded in our own home studios.

3. If I'm not mistaken, the whole process of composing and recording the album was something you faced on your own, can you tell us more about how this process of composing and recording the album was? What brands of instruments have you used to record? and compose?

H. Liljesand has written all songs along with some good inputs from J. Jaloma and J. Liljesand. Most of the lyrics on ’’Impius Viam’’ was also written by H. Liljesand since they all have been written before I joined in on vocals. We work very well together and give each other feed back when we write songs cause our goal is to deliver the best from us. I have no Ide what brand my mates have used.

4. Your new album “Hädanfärd” sounds let's say more direct or dirty than your previous “Impius Viam”, like more impregnated with a nineties air, was this something that you wanted to modify regarding the sound of the first album, maybe for not being completely satisfied with its sound? How would you describe the sound of the album for those who haven't heard it yet and in which way the Swedish death sound and the melodic black of the nineties have been an influence for you?

Since our debut album was more like a collection of songs compare to ’’Hädanfärd’’ I think that it was a bit harder to get the sound we wanted. Hädanfärd is more direct and dirty cause it was suppose too.
Hädanfärd is a concept album about a meeting with death. It is fast brutal yet it gives a bit of hope in times of despair with our melodies and hooks.

5. The themes of your songs are related to aspects that have to do with death. How did the idea of treating these themes in the lyrics of the album come about? Who writes the texts of the songs? Do the lyrics adapt to the music or vice versa? Why the idea of the texts in Swedish?

When we where I think baby 40% done with the demo tracks we aimed to make ’’Hädanfärd’’ to a double album one in english and one in Swedish but that change when the lyrics took form so we felt that this album needs to be in Swedish. While I was writing lyrics I also worked on a novel and I felt a connection between my novel and the album so I started to change some of the lyrics to make the theme more clear. And why death?
Yeah because Death is the big unknown and there is so much to write about. When I get a demo track from H. Liljesand I let the music speak to me so I can go inside my inspiration bubble and let the words flow down. I love music and special when the vocals are in their national tongue, it docent matter if I don’t understand the words cause it feels more real to me. Cause you can express yourself more with the words you from your national tongue. So that’s why ’’Hädanfärd’’ is only in swedish.

6. Following the continuity with respect to your previous album, you maintain the presence of a hooded character on the cover. Who designed the album cover? How is it related to the musical content of the album?

The album cover was pre made by Sick Of Realism. We found them on instagram and liked their style and that cover felt just right for the album.

Since Hädanfärd is about a meeting with death we felt that the hooded character was spot on when we first saw it. The cover art is dark like the theme so there is nothing more to say more then we found it we wanted it and we got it.

7. For the release of your new album you are still linked to the German record label Noble Demon. How does the possibility of working with them again for the release of the new album arise? Are you satisfied with the editing and promotion work carried out by Noble Demon?

We are very satisfied with Patrick and his staff at Noble Demon record. Right now we are working on our third album so whom Is going to release it only time will tell. Cause this time we are taking our time with this album to make it the best we have ever released.

8. How were your beginnings in music: first concerts you attend, first albums you buy? What happened in your lives that pushed you to want to be musicians?

Oh that is a hard question, I don’t know, I just like music, To recorded it to stand on stage and write it. I do this cause it is fun and to express myself. I don’t know the exact moment that made me want to write lyrics and scream on stage. I just like music and this is how I choose to express it.

9. What album represents for you the essence of black metal? What recent albums have you bought?

For me it must be Dark Funeral, Dissection, Dimmu Borgir, Dark Fortress.

The latest stuff I bought is Zornheym two albums and I’ve pre ordered some stuff that I wait on like Dark Funerals new album and the remastered vertions of Belphegors two debut albums and many more.

10. What future plans do you have for Night Crowned in terms of upcoming releases, concerts or reissues?

Right now we are writing on our next album and wait on the restriction to end so we can book some shows. More then that I can’t tell.

11. Thank you very much for taking the time to answer these questions for Black Metal Spirit, if you want to add something for Night Crowned fans, this is the place. I hope the questions are to your liking.

Thank you for taking an intres in us and ask us stuff. Stay safe and to our fans out there tanks for your support it means the world to us-

ULVIK - INTERVIEW

1. When did you decide to create the band? Why did you choose the name Ulvik and what does it refer to?

Ulvik was initially an outlet to learn how to write and record music. It took a few turns and evolved to where it is today. We love working together on this project, it gives us a space to experiment musically and keeps us relatively sane- The Ulvik name is derived from the old Norse referring to a “Wolf’s Den”

2. Although the release of “Shelter”, your first EP, dates back to 2011, it was not until 2018 with the release of “Volume One” that the band began to show some continuity, what happened within Ulvik during these years 2011-18 to not edit anything new?

The first albums pre-2018 (Shelter, Black Sea and Baltic Sea) were under a different name and definitely not in the same vein as Ulvik. Those albums were a great experience in learning how to record and write music at home. I moved to Vancouver from Montreal in 2014 and George/myself met each other playing together in another band (LUCIA). During the LUCIA period, I started experimenting with writing black metal music and released Vol I-II under Ulvik. As LUCIA went into a hiatus, we got together and started exploring more complex sounds for Ulvik and made Isolation Motifs and Cascades.

3. “Cascadian” is your third LP and unlike your previous albums you have given it a more proper name not as impersonal as “Volume one” or “Volume two”, have you somehow decided on this album name for the influences, if any, of a style like Cascadian black metal? How would you define the sound of the album for those who have not heard it yet?

We named the album “Cascades” after the Cascades mountain range. We live in the shadows of these mountains in the Fraser Valley of western British Columbia. We spend a lot of our time exploring these mountains, and we draw a lot of influence and inspiration from the dramatic beauty and harsh ruggedness we’re surrounded by. Other black metal bands that are labeled “cascadian” similarly draw inspiration from this region of the world that we live in too, we are sure. We're not really sure how we'd define our sound on this album, but we feel we were semi successful in capturing an ominous, menacing tone that remains natural, old, beautiful and haunting at the same time.

4. Elements of style such as post-black as well as an intense atmosphere that sometimes goes to extremes almost of violence or anger, come together in the sound of this “Cascadian”. How has the composition and recording process been? of this album? What brands of instruments did you use for this whole process?

Since most of this album was written during the covid 19 pandemic, it meant that we ended up writing material separate from each other by sharing riffs, progressions, melodies and soundscapes remotely over the internet back and forth, rather then in a rehearsal space as you’d conventionally do with a metal band. This gave us a unique opportunity to audition and explore a lot of different ideas and instrumentation individually and privately, then present that material to each other building off of what the other person had worked on previously. This way, we both brought a distinct voice or sound to these songs. Perhaps more so then if we’d written all of them together in a room.

Once we finished the songs in this fashion as demos, we got together to re-record a lot of the final versions, especially for vocals. For instruments, we mostly use Gibson guitars and basses. This album also uses a lot of Greek bouzouki, violin, ebow, and some other old weird acoustic instruments we could get our hands on.  We mixed and recorded the album at our home studio.

5. What themes do you deal with in your lyrics? Who is in charge of writing them? Are the lyrics adapted to the music or vice versa?

Thematically we talked about the severity and harsh reality of mother nature vs the fragility of the man made world when we were writing. The climate and landscape we live in is rugged and can be cruel. There is awe to be found in understanding that the natural world in all its terrible beauty does not care for your wellbeing. As for the vocals, those were mostly developed phonetically and sounded out first to support and complement the musical arrangements, then further fleshed out once they sat properly in the song.

6. Part of the album sales go to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society, why did you make this decision? How have the events that occurred there influenced you to finish shaping this “Cascades”?

The album was written independent of our decision to donate to the IRSSS. So we can’t say that these tragic discoveries had any influence on the album while it was being written. There is a lot that can and should be said about these incidents that are a blood stain on the white washed reputation of our country. However, we believe that the voices that should be heard are of those belonging to the Indigenous Nations of Canada. Those who have endured these atrocities of brutal assimilation at the hand of a Eurocentric Church / State Government. The people who were here in this corner of the world before us lived in harmony with their surroundings and understood its true spirit. Donating from this album was a small token of our support for their voices to be heard louder in Canada.

7. “Cascades” opens with a song like “Baaltis” that perfectly reflects the sound of the entire album, at the same time this song has a promotional video, How did the possibility of making this video come about?

The video for Baaltis was shot by a crew of just 5 of us, including two talented cinematographers, one of whom has access to professional video equipment that we borrowed.  It was shot in the remains of a Women's Correctional Facility that was shut down in the 1970’s. We learned about it from a friend who sneaks into and explores many local derelict and boarded up sites. After researching it, we discovered that many of the women forced to stay there were from a First Nations background. The fact that a derelict Christian church remains prominent on the grounds is noteworthy in regards to the IRSSS question above. The area is concealed by forest and thick brush, and locked behind chain link fences and barbed wire. We had to sneak in with our camera equipment and gear in the early morning hours, and were praying that nobody would discover us. We shot all of it in one day, and were very lucky with the weather and natural lighting behaving for us. In addition to writing music we also work in cinematography and post production, so we handled the editing and colour correction ourselves using Davinci Resolve.

8. Ulvik has not performed live yet, are there possibilities that this situation somehow will change?

We would love to work on a live performance of Ulvik - it is definitely on the table for us to do. However, we are taking our time as live venues are still closed in our part of the world. For the moment, we’re focusing on writing new material as the world progresses and hopefully reopens for all of us to enjoy live concerts!

9. The cover of “Cascades” is quite simple but at the same time it perfectly reflects the atmosphere of desolation and loneliness often present in your music. Why this cover and what do you intend to transmit with it?

The album cover and photography within the sleeve were shot in the ruins of a ghost town less than two kilometers from where one of us grew up in the interior of BC. The area is littered with buildings and houses from the late 1800s gold rush slowly rotting away. Man made materials falling into rusted decay as nature reclaims the area around it. The memory and imprint of the people who once lived there are slowly getting swallowed up by the weeds as time marches forward. It felt like fitting and poignant imagery to accompany the sound, mood, and emotion we were trying to capture on the album. The lonely bench facing away into thick brush feels haunted. Like you can almost see someone sitting there waiting for someone or something to emerge from the thicket.

10. Avantgarde Music has taken care of the physical editions of the album. How did the possibility of publishing the album with them come about? Are you satisfied with the editing and promotion work carried out by Avantgarde Music?

Avantgarde were interested in publishing Volume I and II after they were released so we bundled them together to make a physical album. We had some songs written for Cascades at the time and they were interested in making a full promotion for the album when the time was right. In between Volume I and II, we decided to put a pin on Cascades and write an acoustic folk/black metal album (Isolation Motifs) at a distance while we were quarantined. We are really grateful for all the support we received from Avantgarde and the community for Cascades.

11. Going back a bit with the Cascadian black metal theme, is it an influence for you when it comes to shaping your sound? Are you familiar with this style and if so, can you tell us about it from your situation in the actuality?

We weren’t really familiar with the term “Cascadian” black metal when we first started writing together, but we are undeniably big fans of a lot of black metal bands from this area of the world that would fall into that “Cascadian” category. We’ve got a lot of appreciation for bands like Wolves In The Throne Room and Uada from further down south in Washington and Oregon. The Vancouver black metal scene has some great bands like Crystal Coffin and Wormwitch who we definitely support.

12. How were your beginnings in music: first concerts you attend, first albums you buy? What did you do in your lives that made you want to be musicians?

George: As a kid I listened to a lot of Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, White Zombie, Marilyn Manson, all those artsy alternative 90’s bands you’d suspect. I grew up watching music videos from this era and that probably had the biggest effect on me wanting to be involved in music. I started playing bass and guitar along to those albums, so that was a lot of my foundation in learning to play. At the same time my mom really encouraged and supported my appreciation of classical music from an early age, so I had some Tchaikovsky, Brahms and Chopin discs that I wore out too. Growing up where I did, there was also always a lot of country music being played. That’s something I came to appreciate a lot more as I got older and it works its way into my influences more and more. My first major concert was Tool during the Lateralus tour, and it was life changing.

Jade: As a kid, I listened to a lot of Quebec punk rock bands like Grimskunk, Groovy Aardvark, Mort Aux Pourris and more English punk rock bands as a kid. I was initiated to drumming but it was too loud to play at home so I switched to electric guitar. I learned punk rock music and transitioned to learning metal in order to improve my guitar skills. I developed a taste for that type of music and I also loved more experimental bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor that were local to Montreal and got me into the post rock and experimental music scene. Never really had a goal to be a musician but I really enjoy the journey to learning how to write songs and have a good time with the painful process.

13. Which album represents for you the essence of black metal? What last albums have you bought?

That is an incredibly tough question to answer. As far as an album that captures the mood and sound of classic black metal best, the first one that comes to mind is Filosofem by Burzum. Which is an incredible album, but we wouldn’t say that it's amongst our top favorite albums. The last black metal band we equally got really into was probably the “de doden hebben het goed” album trilogy by Wiegedood. Most recently Primordial Arcana by WITTR and Wolf Hex by locals Wormwitch got a lot of play time from both of us. Otherwise our tastes in what we individually like in black metal does vary between us. There’s a lot of overlap to make creating for Ulvik run pretty much seamlessly, but enough difference that our music ends up sounding unique from what either of us would probably individually create.

14. What future plans do you have for Ulvik in terms of upcoming releases or reissues?

Writing on the next album is underway and we’re very excited by the direction it’s headed.

15. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer these questions for Black Metal

Thanks for your interest in our work, it’s been a pleasure to answer your questions.

REALM OF THE NIGHT (2021)
1. Prooemium 01:36
2. Crowns of Divinity 04:01
As the shadows dance in the last flames of flickering candles
And the sun falls down behind the veil of Darkness
Behind these Black hills of old, behind these whispering woods
In my Chamber I am awake!

In dust and gathering mist I dwell towards the altar of sacrifice
A shrine built for Thy might
Again I stand on the edge of a bridge across...
Unmasked and purified by the Flames that burn me not

As I bathe in the Dead light of the moon
These cold stone steps lead my way...
And I set my words against the gods light

Black is The Flame as the shadows dance
I'm mesmerized by this power inside
In trance I behold the stars
Beyond the gates of life...

Into the Devils name I am reborn tonight
As many nights before

In dust and gathering mist I dwell towards the altar of sacrifice
A shrine built for Thy might
Again I stand on the edge of a bridge across...
Unmasked and purified by the Flames that burn me not

As I bathe in the Dead light of the moon
These cold stone steps lead my way...
This Path I have chose to walk
And I set my words against the gods of light
3. Revelations of Dark Crafts 05:01
  Witching hour falls
I feel the urge to follow the call
Release my will from this mortal shell

For this is my will
I travel in astral planes
Appear to me O' Nightspirit
Show me the secrets unseen by feeble minds

In my Dark dreams I have seen the Spiral everturning
Far beyond my earthly form
My cold spirit travels in Thy halls
In the Darkness lit by the full moon
The great eye of the Dead
I approach Thy throne

Bind the spirits of Beast and human flesh
Break the borders that I have not yet seen

Hear me - Shadows of many forms
Hear me - Dark spirits of the Abyss
Hear me - Thee who live beyond the shadows
Join me - in this circle of invocation

Beyond the stars, beyond the universe
I swirl in the darkest of my dreams
I have crossed the point of no return
As the treasures I seek cannot be found from this world
Show me the secrets that I have not yet seen!

But in my Dark dreams I have seen the Spiral everturning
Far beyond my earthly form
My cold spirit travels in Thy halls
In the Darkness lit by the full moon
The great eye of the Dead

Witching hour falls
I feel the urge to follow the call
Release my will from this mortal shell

For this is my will
I travel in astral planes
Appear to me O' Nightspirit
In the darkest hours of Night I give You my soul
4. On the Path of Thy Shadow 05:11
In this form I have chose to dwell Until I break the shackles of this earthly vessel So that I may see in utter Darkness crystal clear Deluminate to illuminate Suffocate to receive strength Reveal the hidden face behind the mask O' Destroyer - O' Creator O' The King - O' Satan Enlighten my path further to Darkness Pierce the structure of cosmos To unleash Chaos! We hold the torch We light up the Flames that will burn your will to live Some may call it a curse But they don't know the difference Between burden and a blessing Burn my soul in Thy Flame Bind my heart in Lucifers name Grant me the strength You bear Destroyer, Creator, The King! To walk on the path of Thy Shadow Lurking in every poisonous thought The Poison that replaces all futile values The Poison that becomes the blood rushing within The Poison that I cherish... As I walk on the path of Thy Shadow O' Destroyer - O' Creator O' The King - O' Satan Enlighten my path further to Darkness Pierce the structure of cosmos To unleash Chaos! Ashes fall from crosses and crescents That have spoiled our native soil And so we dwell... ghosts shaped as men in twilight
5. From Grey Tombs 05:32
From the Grave I returned
Walk with howling wolves
From the darkest of Shadows I grow stronger
I fly through twilight, observe with crows eyes
I call you forth my allies from grey tombs

Rise I call you, cast a shadow upon this land
Come forth, pierce through the veil of Death
Thee who have swallowed the dust of centuries, come forth!

I conjure Thy spirit, that thou do enter into thy ancient body again
And answer to my demands
By the virtue of the posture of the body of the Ruler of this world
I charge thee! I conjure thee, I command thee!

Marked by the kiss of the Devil
As a beast noble and strong I lead my army

I conjure Thy spirit
By the virtue of the posture of the body of the Ruler of this world
I charge thee! I conjure thee, I command thee!
NOW!!!

Limbs of wolves
Eyes of crows
Flame of Lucifer

From the Grave I returned
Walk with howling wolves
From the darkest of Shadows I grow stronger
I fly through twilight, observe with crows eyes
I call you forth my allies from grey tombs

Rise I call you, cast a shadow upon this land
Come forth, pierce through the veil of Death
Thee who have swallowed the dust of centuries, come forth!

I conjure Thy spirit, that thou do enter into thy ancient body again

(Written in 1996 by Necrosis and J.K who now dwells in Chaos)
6. Summoning the Spirit of the Dead 05:12
   Every now and then
This stench of Death appears
It comes in the form of fog
Beyond the dead trees...
Where a circle of stone stands
A place of ancient sacrificial rituals

Lit only by the cold moon
And the stars whose names we know not
Where my fears come alive
But I no longer feel intimidated by them
Rather I feel delight

All these hidden mysteries open for me
As I feel the spirits of Transilvania rejoining in my body

This is my Path of choice
It is my home
Into the beauty of the Night I dwell to follow the call...
So that I may live forever
What will I see there...
In the Darkness unpierceable by any light

In this stone my name is written
I have seen it in my dreams
The wind whispers the echoes beyond the realm of life
This is my Path of choice
This is my home

Mortui vivos docent

A place of ancient sacrificial rituals
Lit only by the cold moon
And the stars whose names we know not

Into the beauty of the Night I dwell to follow the call...
So that I may live forever

The Dead will teach the living
7. Slumber 06:36
I found my way to dwell through the gates
As I travel in my obscure dreams
Every step takes me further to Black tranquillity
And closer to Thy Pantheon

As I lay myself to rest before Thy altar
I prepare my mind to receive Thy visions
I am reborn... from the ageless stars
A creation of Thy power
I am ready... To join the stream... Of Thy Dark wisdom

In the name of Morning star I have sworn my oath
Guide me on this path of the Nightside
Unveil me Thy wisdom, Unveil me Thy light
My dreams they obsess me
They change me
They change the world surrounding me
Unveil me Thy wisdom, Unveil me Thy light

Inside these stony walls
I see visions that would burn the eyes of a common man
But I feel no fear as I know...
These sights were meant to be seen by me!

Show me... Guide me... Teach me... Use me as your tool
My eyes... pitiless... lifeless...
But the Flame keeps on burning
I open my eyes... Chained to this world
But I feel thy presence within...
It burns deep within me!

As I lay myself to rest before Thy altar
I prepare my mind to receive Thy visions

In the name of Morning star I have sworn my oath
Guide me on this path of the Nightside
Unveil me Thy wisdom, Unveil me Thy light
My dreams they obsess me
They change me
They change the world surrounding me
Unveil me Thy wisdom, Unveil me Thy light

Satan
8. Uncelestial Light (The Chamber) 05:58
 I walk between the worlds
By My blood I have gained my steps
I have seen the flesh perish
Burned and turned to smoke
Inhale to unite again
When asked the right questions
You can receive the wisdom
...beyond the centuries

I enter the portal of no return
In ecstasy I observe the sights

Within I feel The Black Flame
Inhale to unite again

The current takes me onwards
Towards the vortex.... I swirl
Downwards... and into the empty corners of this reality
Yet closer to a place where all becomes clear

To Die and reborn I walk

I dwell on this Path painted to me
In a search of The gateway
In my Chamber lay secrets that wait to be unfold
They be from the Nightside

Within, The Black Flame
Inhale to unite again

The current takes me onwards
Towards the vortex

I see behind the veil and I comprehend
All that I leave behind seems so unavailing now
All the pieces fall into their place
In my Chamber

CERN A SMRT (2021)

OUR BODIES BURNED BRIGHT ON RE-ENTRY (2021)

1. Qeres 07:20
It would have been easy to stay home. To look away. To get drunk enough to kid myself i never saw anything. Fires die, fire die, eyes grow tired. We hollow out and pretend that we hate company. Mask the fear of loss with distance. It would have been easy to let you go. To let you die, My friend.

Now i'm breaking down your door and i am begging you to stay. But you always run away. You're afraid of the pain. You won't even say his name. Peel back the skin from your face. The sun is not the only thing that's fallen today; Don't call me angel.

Let the drip remind you that you're alive; you have to stay awake. Won't you stay and suffer with me? Clear your head in the rain, cigarette on the fire escape. Look away, passing years fleeting fears. Winter air, rain blurs into mist under lights as vision vignettes. We disregard ourselves. Living among memories, Scar becomes skin.

Dig your nails in. Don't you dare let go. Bloodshot to unslept. Running down the hallway soaking wet. White knuckle to the blade, you really mean it this time.

I can't lose another friend.

In the cold light of a saturday. Freezing rain, a broken window. There's blood across the kitchen floor. Don't make me do this again. Don't make me.

Now i'm breaking down your door and i'm begging you to stay. But you will always run away, You're afraid of the pain. You won't even say my name as you walk into the waves. That love line is looking frayed, life line's a fucking noose.

You can stand strong alone. I've seen you live through this before.
2. Our Bodies Burned Bright on Re-Entry 08:35
You are the morning star. Sunrise reflecting off empty bottles, And the mirror is cracked and flecked white. Goodnight sweet supply, here comes the crash. See you at the end of the skylines rushing up, Rooftops colliding our faces awake.

One night in hell, seven minutes in heaven. 4th degree burns on my hands and my neck. Young lucifer, kiss my mouth at the station. Could you hold my hands 'til they stop shaking?

Safe passage, blood magic, cuts on my wrists. Skin going numb from the pills swallowing. Not holding hands but we touch at our lips. Don't need to fuck, but i'm still fucking with-

Take out your weapon and climb on top of me. Make me art, Make a mess. A monument to lost rest. The space between our skin inscribed with blood and sweat. Kiss me goodnight like a pilot light, Sylvia.

I won't pretend i didn't notice you staring. Did you see the bloodstains, or just the shaking? Is it okay? Obvious how far i'm gone? The other side of the sunrise, Scream into my mirror. Until the glass breaks us.

Angels on my tongue, Incense in my lungs. Shaking hands tear me to bits.

...the 4th degree. Your blood would freeze at the thought. Of the shit that i have done for money. How much neon do i have to push through my veins. Until i can call myself a city?
Like every night you stayed close that year. Kissed the bottle in the streetlight, Should it have been me? Oh man i wish.

Andule, Mi alma. I wish life could have been different. But i bled petition to the gods for your safe flight back to Toronto. Next time will be measured in days and months or i'll cut out my lying tongue. Every day i wake from a vision of the ground rushing to meet my face.

If we never fell like this, How do we know what falling is?
3. Coyotes 06:42
Sold promises and herded north. Delivered through fences into exploitative arms. Torn from families and ground up for foundations, blood to tend your gardens. Until you put us to the wall. Scapegoated, The drug dealers. In the border towns, selling cures you've been priced out of at home. For your children, Running Free, Without papers. Ours watch guards pass by through the bars of a cage door. The coyotes will always get through. You know that, You always knew. Our blood oils the machine. We're going to watch it burn. Affording you the same respect you always gave us: Fuck your borders.
4. With Ashen Hands Around Our Throats 06:17
Black clouds plume over the capital and the ash starts to fall. Grey snow, Black rain in the summer streets. 60 hours burning, Death creeps into homes through the cladding. Flames dance through corridors. Human cost, stay put, no profit loss. Blood and ash on the hands of landlords. We still bleed by the month for the privilege of living in a time bomb. Resist to regulate, launch inquests in the hopes we all forget. The invisible hand revealed by the stains that mark it. (It's choking us, We're dying here, 3rd degree casualty) So we stay displaced, one eye to the fire escape. Black our lungs, become statistics to drive change. Renovations paid for in lives; Innocence and negligence. Death calls, But never says who's at fault. How many lives 'ti they answer for their crimes? Blood and ash on the hands of landlords. And look what embers remain. 3 days pain. 2 years and counting, we remain. Look them in the eyes and say what you tell yourself; we made our money though. Clear out your conscience, what's it worth? Justified inactions. We pay up and wait to burn. Do you think you can't be touched? Everyone who did this has a face, name, address. If they think they're fireproof, they are wrong.
5. Skeleton Queen 07:09
Press that bloodstain to my chapped and faded lips. As if though contact i could regain myself. Carve your initials, Stay claim to my flesh. I never wanted this prison of meat and bone. With my poets' lips, Oven-blue and glistening. Resent myself for learning how to sing inside a bell jar:

"Yo soy la reina de los huesos, Yo soy la reina del infierno, Estoy bien"

I can keep up the act. I'm not wearing thin. Love my work, full of joy, motivated, every day i'm not wearing thing. Telling myself i can i can i can i can i can. Live with this compromise.

Estoy bien. I hate my voice for never being what you wanted to hear. I hate my mirror for never showing me what i want to see.

At my very best, i made a fucking mess of your bed, But it was a beautiful wreck, Right? She said if that's all i want to try then that's fine, Abi just let go and fucking-

"I feel energised 100% of the time. I feel positive. I feel strong. Struggling to come up with new ideas is not making me depressed. Drinking is not affecting my life. Cocaine is not affecting my life. I just need some time of whatever it is that makes you feel completed. I need to feel whole, and not like a shitty person anymore. I'm..."

Die.
Die, Abi. Die.
I'll make sure your work dies with you.
