SAILING OUR SHIPS TO MARTYRDOM (2019)

Después de la edición hace un par de años de su primer Ep "Echoes of Thunder, Beneath the Waves", los griegos editan su primer álbum de estudio que consta de ocho temas de black metal bastante directo y con tintes melódicos. El inicio del álbum tal vez no tenga el empaque necesario, es cierto que suena contundente y directo, pero el oyente tal vez esté esperando otra banda griega de sonido black clásico, sin embargo esta primera toma de contacto se hace extraña, incluso diríamos que su black suena como alejado un tanto de los cánones más ortodoxos. Todo hay que decirlo, el álbum poco a poco va ganando enteros y acaba por sonar perfectamente engrasado, ganando oscuridad y ciñéndose en mayor medida a lo establecido. Sin lugar a dudas el sonido de este "Sailing Our Ships to Martyrdom" es un tanto peculiar, tal vez el abuso de blast beast, fruto de la programación de la batería, que aún cumpliendo su cometido, hay momentos que ocupa demasiado espacio, otros elementos a tener en cuenta es lo versátil y dinámico del sonido, ya que deja espacio y se ve enriquecido por elementos melódicos que poco a poco van ganando peso y presencia, junto a algunos ingredientes atmosféricos. DM entrega unas voces agresivas y directas, con pocas concesiones que se amoldan perfectamente a la propuesta agresiva y de su música. La one man canadiense Feral, bajo mi punto de vista es un referente en cuanto a sonido, sobre todo en la faceta más directa, dentro de un sonido que cuando parece que va a acabar en un bucle sin sentido acaba por salir airoso del envite. El echo de pulir algunos aspecto dentro de su sondo en futuras ediciones le haría subir algunos enteros, por lo demás un álbum que concentra elementos agresivos y melódicos de manera bastante acertada (8).
