DEADLY CARNAGE

THROUGH THE VOID, ABOVE THE SUNS (2018)

Supongo que poco queda ya a estas alturas de Deadly Carnage que pertenezca a sus inicios allá por el 2005, por que se me ocurren pocas bandas que hayan trabajado tanto y bien en evolucionar su sonido y salir airosos del envite. Si ya con "Manthe", su anterior álbum, sentaron las bases de como querián sonar, definiendo su estilo y dejando fluir sus diferentes influencias, lo que nos ofrecen en este "Through the Void, Above the Suns" es otro nivel que merece mucha más atención de la que seguramente se le acabará prestando. Para comenzar "Through the Void, Above the Suns" ocupó en su composición a la banda durante los últimos cuatro años, estructurado como un álbum al uso pero que perfectamente podría ser escuchado y entendido como un sólo tema con un concepto bien definido en torno al cosmo como entidad con vida propia y dinamizador; para continuar han optado por incluir un segundo vocalista en algunos temas. Su música, como comentaba antiormente, está en constante proceso de evolución, hoy en día poco queda de los comienzos más black thrash de la banda e influencias como las del post y el doom que ya se dejaban entrever en "Manthe", en este nuevo trabajo cobran un protagonismo total y absoluto. "Through the Void, Above the Suns" son nueve temas que en poco más de cuarenta y cinto minutos es imposible que deje indiferente al oyente, sobre todo al que vaya buscando un sonido rico y bien trabajado y que guste de bandas como Agalloch, Alcest o Wolves in the Throne Room. Tal vez estas bandas sean reconocibles en el sonido del nuevo álbum de Deadly Carnage, pero también es cierto que es quedarse corto, ya que el álbum logra trasmitir sensaciones de soledad, de melancolía y frialdad. Su música se antoja variada, con múltiples influencias y en donde se han aprovechado estos cuatro años para trabajarala a fondo. Desde la intro "Quantum" se aprecia un cuidado trabajo de atmosféras y de riffs de guitarras, pero esto solo es el comienzo, con "Matter", asistimos a un despliegue de riffs variados, melódicos y melancólicos con ciertos cambios de ritmo que permiten apreciar una atmosféra trabajada e inmersiva. A partir de aquí, y como este tema sirviera para perder la vergüenza, Deadly Carnage ofrece un repertorio de estilo e influencias brutales, al alcance de muy pocos, si que es cierto que el post metal, el post rock, el doom y el black son estilos reconocibles y muy presentes, pero es del todo también imposible no acabar reconociendo elementos shoegaze, stoner, gótico y del black más crudo y visceral. Destacando por encima de todo el perfecto equilibrio entre las voces limpias en contraste con la agresivas, según las necesidades de cada tema, el gran sonido de batería y los profundos riffs de guitarra, sin olvidarnos de la acertada inclusión de "Ifene", tema cantado en italiano. Deadly Carnage se han desmarcado de las masas, se han sacado de la manga un álbum increíble, un álbum que supone un viaje a otros mundos, a oscuridad y profundidad de la galaxia de una manera emotiva y perfecta. DEADLY CARNAGE

CHASM (2016)

Hace ya un par de años que la banda italiana Deadly Carnage editara "Manthe", un álbum que no dejó indiferente a nadie que lo haya escuchado y apreciado, un álbum que sin lugar a dudas nos ofrecía un black metal de sonido denso y pesado, con fuertes connotaciones de doom metal y algunas influencias también de post metal. Dos años han trascurrido y para hacernos la espera más llevadera hasta la edición de un nuevo álbum y celebrar sus diez años de trayectoria se han atrevido con la autoedición de un Ep que está integrado por un para de temas, en formato vinilo y en edición limitada a 100 copias. "Night Was the End" se encarga de abrir el Ep, en el podemos seguir disfrutando del black metal de sonidos densos y pesados, aunque creo que también se le han añadido cierta influencias del metal progresivo, algo de post metal y sobre todo viene a entregar unas melodías repletas de melancolía. Aspecto, el de la melancolía que tal vez se viene a acentuar en "Hole of Mirrors", tema que cierra el álbum y que si bien sigue el patrón marcado en el tema inicial, si que se adentra en terrenos más intimistas y melancólicos. Deadly Carnage creo que día de hoy son una banda alejada de cualquier moda y que han sabido crear un sonido propio totalmente reconocible en donde el black, el doom y el post metal campan a sus anchas. This compilation features all three demos by the seminal Pittsburgh doom/trash outfit - from the groups baby steps on 'Dream Death" 1986 to 'More Graveyard Delving' 1986, their first recording in a real studio, and 'Ode To Sorrow" 1988, the band's doomy swan song recorded after their only album 'Journey Into Mystery'. The set also features a 'lost' early track called 'Hell On Wheels', previously unavailable.

The material has been remastered for vinyl at Studio Perkele. The double vinyl package comes in a gatefold jacket with newly commissioned artwork by Martin Hanford and features a 8 page booklet with lyrics and liner notes. The whole set is housed in a slipcase with vintage flyer artwork.

MANTHE (2014)  

La verdad es que la escena de black italiana nos esta dejando en este año un reguero de buenos álbumes siendo este "Manthe" otra buena muestra de la buena salud que cuenta el género en el país transalpino. Bien es cierto también que su anterior obra "Sentiero II - Ceneri" no había hecho depositar grandes expectativas en su continuación pero como una bofetada para los incrédulos aquí esta "Manthe" un disco maduro y cargado de buena música y sobre todo de muy buenas composiciones, complicadas de definir. "Manthe " es un álbum muy completo, su sonido está marcado por el black metal, un black de sonido aplastante y lento que le debe mucho a la vertiente más doom de su música, música en la que también hay lugar para cierta experimentación hacia un detah melódico y sonidos que le deben mucho a la obra de bandas como Katatonia. En sus textos tratan temas que hablan sobre la decadencia de la sociedad occidental y Marcello ha realizado un buen trabajo en esta faceta vocal. Si a esto todo unimos algunos arreglos que sirven para aportar variedad y frescura a las composiciones tenemos como resultado una obra mayúscula dentro del género y a una banda que parece que ha marcado correctamente la dirección a seguir en sus futuras obras.
