VESPERIAN SORROW

 AWAKEN THE GREYLIGHT (2024)

Sexta entrega ya para los tejanos Vesperian Sorrow, después de una carrera que arrancó allá por 1997 y que ha sabido forjar un sonido inspirado en el black sinfónico, pero que de un tiempo a esta parte parece querer adentrarse por terrenos más épicos y góticos. Por un lado tenemos una textura de los temas bastante potente, con una batería contundente que en líneas generales sabe jugar con diferentes ritmos que sirven para que el entramado de guitarras logre ofrecer un par de capas, una mucho más directa y cruda mientras que se ve rodeado por un sonido de segunda guitarra mucho más melódico y es que en esa confluencia de fuerzas es donde el death melódico y el black se hacen fuertes. Sin embargo comentaba anteriormente ese carácter más épico de su propuesta, dejando un tanto de lado las influencias sinfónicas y adentrándose en un buen trabajo de sintetizadores y teclados que crean una atmósfera mucho más épica de principio a fin, sobre todo cuando la intensidad se relaja un tanto. Por su parte las voces ofrecen ese carácter más oscuro y gutural, agresivo y profundo más propio de un daeth melódico, pero que no se arredra a la hora de ofrecer también una faceta por momentos más limpia o como ocurre en otras secciones de procedencia descaradamente heavy clásica. En definitiva un álbum de un sonido portentoso e inmersivo,, que nos atrapa en su épica y melodía, capaz de navegar por terrenos mucho más directo  cuando hablamos de death melódico o black, pero que sabe sacar partido también a influencias más góticas y épicas. Cinco años tendrían que transcurrir para que los de Austin le dieran continuidad a "Psychotic Sculpture", cinco años que emplearon para perfeccionar su propuesta y llevarla un paso más allá. El mayor cambio apreciable es a nivel de producción, la mezcla suena más compacta y profesional restando un punto de crudeza e improvisación. El componente sinfónico se ve acrecentado y tiene un mayor peso en los temas, solapando un poco un aspecto muy cuidado en su anterior trabajo que era el de las guitarras, aquí todavía presentes en un vertiente igualmente melódica pero más tapadas. La batería a ganado peso y presencia, Kristoph ha trabajado más su faceta y su aportación es más madura. Las voces se mueven por una línea agresiva, pero en algunas partes se han añadido algunos coros y segundas voces que realmente se agradece. Se a dejado atrás aquella atmósfera más fría y oculta para acabar por acercarse a otra más gótica y accesible. En definitiva un álbum correcto sin más, para seguidores de la vertiente más sinfónica del género. (7,9).

PSYCHOTIC SCULPTURE (2001)

Este fué el segundo larga duración de la banda afincada en Texas en donde ofrecen un sonido a medias entre black sinfónico y death melódico, una delgada línea separa en su música a ambos géneros. Este es un álbum en línea con bandas como Dimmu Borgir, las comparaciones son odiosas pero es lo que más semejanza tiene, tal vez el sonido no llegue a ser tan sinfónico ni pretencioso y es de agradecer porque el trabajo realizado a las guitarras es bastante bueno, la mayoría de las veces en una vertiente bastante melódica. Las voces en líneas generales discurren por una vertiente agresiva, aunque en ciertas partes incluso han incorporado algunas femeninas y otras más guturales. La ambientación no deja de ser por ello, oscura y siniestra, ambientación que viene de la mano de un buen trasfondo sinfónico. Un álbum que supuso un paso importante en la carrera de la banda y que los dió a conocer como una banda de black sinfónico a tener en cuenta. (7,8).
