OLS (2016)

Primer larga duración para este one woman band afincada en Polonia que nos entrega seis temas propios y dos versiones de grupos como Katatonia y Agalloch. Su propuesta a simple vista se centra en un sonido neofolk pero con un trasfondo un tanto más oscuro y frío. Anna se encarga tanto de las voces como de la instrumentación, salvo la participación de Zagreus de los también polacos Jarum en ciertas partes de guitarra. La parte principal de la música de este "Ols" gira en torno a las voces de Anna, voces melódicas, limpias y corales que se adentra en temas como la soledad, las tristeza y sobre todo el contacto con la naturaleza y las distintas fuerzas que emanan de ella. "O drzewach" es el encargado de abrir el álbum, en el podemos encontrar los elementos más representativos de la música de Ols, siendo el tema también más inspirado de la mano de una muy buena melodía que corre a cargo de las voces. A partir de aquí el álbum se vuelve más intimista, algo más lento y siniestro tal vez, repleto voces que conservan la melodía y se mantienen limpias, pero que también se ven acompañadas de diferentes instrumentos de origen folk. La música siempre conserva esa sensación fría y sombría, casi que medieval, tal vez convirtiéndose un tanto en algo más lineal e intimista. Cierra el álbum las dos versiones anteriormente comentadas, por un lado "Unfurl" de Katatonia y el "Bloodbirds" de Agalloch, simpre llevados a terreno propio. (8).

Dream Death ‎– Back From The Dead 19,99 €

This compilation features all three demos by the seminal Pittsburgh doom/trash outfit - from the groups baby steps on 'Dream Death" 1986 to 'More Graveyard Delving' 1986, their first recording in a real studio, and 'Ode To Sorrow" 1988, the band's doomy swan song recorded after their only album 'Journey Into Mystery'. The set also features a 'lost' early track called 'Hell On Wheels', previously unavailable.

The material has been remastered for vinyl at Studio Perkele. The double vinyl package comes in a gatefold jacket with newly commissioned artwork by Martin Hanford and features a 8 page booklet with lyrics and liner notes. The whole set is housed in a slipcase with vintage flyer artwork.

HYBREED (1996-2016)

Veinte años han pasado ya desde la edición de "Hybreed", tiempo en el cual Red Harvest han pasado por diferentes estados como banda, hasta su disolución y posterior regreso, no ya solo con este lanzamiento, sino que también tienen preparado nuevo material para este año en curso. Red Harvest comienza como banda de thrash hace casi treinta años, época durante la cual nos dejan un álbum y un par de demos, pero tal vez sea la llegada al grupo años más tarde, en 1994, de Lars "LRZ" Sorensen el que le da una nueva perspectiva a su propuesta, renovando y actualizando su sonido como queda a las claras en su obra más representativa como es este "Hybreed" publicado originalmente en 1996 y remasterizado recientemente por Cyrille Gachet en los Dick Doom Estudios y que viene acompañado de un segundo CD en directo grabado en el BlastFest 2016 en Bergen y que da buena cuenta del buen estado actual de la banda. Podemos considerar la propuesta de este álbum como un referente dentro del sonido industrial, un álbum que sus casi 80 minutos de duración y a lo largo de 11 temas da buena cuenta de todo lo que tiene que tener un álbum de sonido industrial, hasta aquí una descripción breve, acertada pero corta de lo que es este "Hybreed". Si profundizamos un tanto podemos afirmar que aunque hayan pasado veinte años desde su edición, el álbum se mantiene fresco y el sonido no se ha resentido con el paso del tiempo. Otro aspecto a tener en cuenta es que estamos ante un álbum de múltiples influencias, a destacar el death, el doom, o el thrash de los inicios de Red Harvest como banda de la mano de unas guitarras que no han perdido protagonismo frente a otros elementos de su música y se ven mezcladas con atmósferas de sufrimiento y odio. Como clara influencias de este álbum señalaré el legado de Godflesh que siempre se encuentran muy presentes en todas la bandas que se centran en un metal industrial pero que recogen otros estilos como el post. El segundo disco nos muestra a una banda en plena forma con un publico más que entregado y que desgrana parte de su repertorio de una manera bastante convincente. Sólo añadir que las expectativas ante nuevos lanzamientos de Red Harvest han crecido exponecialmente después de esta reedición. (8,8).

RITUALS OF THE DAMNED (2016)

Primer larga duración para esta one man band procedente de Inglaterra que ofrece un álbum que podríamos encuadrar dentro de la vertiente más tradicional del black, capaz de sonar crudo y directo, pero con un trasfondo más profundo y trabajado que eleva el resultado final. Wyvern se ha empleado a fondo para completar siete temas en donde lo que predomina es el conjunto, no hay partes de guitarra, ni de batería que destaquen por encima del resto, sino que lo más salientable es el sonido arrancado a este álbum. Sonido que mantiene la crudeza de las composiciones, la frialdad de las mismas debido a la manera directa y visceral de los riffs y de la batería, que se ven acompañadas de unas voces que también demuestran una clara tendencia hacia una vertiente bastante directa. Lo que hace diferente el sonido de este álbum es lo que se entreve en un segundo plano, podríamos llamarlo atmósfera fría, sobre la que se sustenta este álbum y que es capaz de mantener el interés en todo momento en la música, sobre todo a tener en cuenta en los temas más extensos en donde Wyvern hace gala de diferentes recursos y va jugando con el tempo de las composiciones hasta llevarlos a terrenos más doom y oscuros. "Rituals of the Damned" se nutre en su mayor parte del sonido más clásico y característico del black metal, sin embargo Wyvern plasma ciertas ideas en él que consiguen darle un toque personal y enriquece el resultado final. THE NIGHTSTALKER

A JOURNEY IN HELL (2016)

Cuarta entrega ya para The Nightstalker que al amparo de Sercati, sigue aportando nuevos lanzamientos y ahondando en la historia conceptual que rodea al ángel caído, historia por cierto que en breve se editara en forma de libro. Para este "A journey in Hell" la propuesta y concepto de su música no ha variado sustancialmente con respecto a su anterior "All for a Promise", es decir seguimos encontrándonos como oyentes con un propuesta de metal extremo que se nutre de diversas influencias como el black atmosférico, el gótico o el dark wave, para seguir recreando una ambientación gótica, oscura, por momentos siniestra y en otros más inquietante. El peso de los teclados ha crecido enteros, muchas composiciones se estructuran alrededor de este instrumento que dota a las composiciones de melancolía y oscuridad a partes iguales. Hay temas en donde aún conservando el peso y fuerza de los teclados, las partes de guitarra y batería cobran protagonismo y logran sonar más directas y contundentes sin perder del todo esa dosis de melancolía y oscuridad presentes en todo el álbum. En cuanto a las voces, se van amoldando un poco a la propuesta musical de cada momento, capaces de sonar más intimistas y casi que habladas en los momentos más relajados de las composiciones, pero capaces también de sonar bastantes agresivas en otros, en los cuales la intensidad de la música así lo requiere. En líneas generales podemos hablar del nuevo álbum de The Nightstalker, como de un álbum e sonido reconocible dentro de la trayectoria de la banda, pero que sigue madurando en cuanto a composición y estructura de los temas. KORNÔG (2016)

Con una trayectoria extensa a sus espaldas y ofreciendo obras a tener en cuenta dentro del black metal con influencias paganas, el regreso de Belenos después de seis años de silencio se antoja cuando menos necesaria. Estamos ante un álbum extenso, repleto de black metal con sonidos que algunas partes de acercan al viking pero que Loïc lleva al terreno de la banda, una música casi que épica que no hace ascos a sonar directa y dura pero siempre conservando la base de épica y la sensación de paganismo que por momentos aflora en la forma de melodías o arreglos de cuerda, aunque realmente este paganismo siempre esta presente en todas las composiciones en un segundo plano. Algunos coros añadidos con acierto en ciertos pasajes acaban de completar la riqueza musical de este "Kornôg", en donde Loïc se ha empleado a fondo para volver a ofrecer una obra que iguale en intensidad a la época inicial de Belenos. Hay que decir sin embargo, que aunque pudiésemos pensar en un álbum excesivamente épico o con demasiadas influencias folk nos equivocamos. La propuesta se centra más en las partes duras a base de la dureza y efectividad de la batería, por momentos cercana al death, también por grandes y variados riffs de guitarra, que aún conservando la variedad logran siempre acercarse a partes folk, sin olvidar la dureza de las voces en casi todas las partes salvo allí donde se ven escudadas en algunas partes corales. Un álbum que no admite discusiones y que devuelve a la one man band francesa al primer plano del black. (8,5).

SPIRITUS IN TERRA (2016)

Lo cierto es que el primer trabajo de Arx Atrata editado hace ahora poco más de tres años era una obra que en su día ya llamó la atención, al mismo tiempo que sirvió para situar a la one man band en el panorama del black atmosférico. Los años han pasado y Ben Sizer regresa con "Spiritus in Terra" que conserva las virtudes de "Oblivion" y consigue superarlo especialmente gracias a la madurez y riqueza del sonido. Ben Sizer sumerge al oyente desde el inicio en una atmósfera fría y oscura en donde la presencia de la naturaleza, y especialmente de la penumbra y frialdad del bosque se encuentran muy presentes, y lo cierto es que consigue trasmitirlo gracias a una música que tira de largos desarrollos, en donde la presencia de teclados rodeando toda la amalgama de sonidos más metal, van tintando su música de cierta melancolía o tristeza. No estamos ante un álbum de black atmosférico contemplativo y aburrido, aquí se ha tirado por la construcción de los temas a base de guitarras oscuras, casi sucias y distorsionadas, la batería muchas veces lleva la voz cantante a modo de un ritmo bastante rápido y feroz y las voces se decantan por una faceta bastante agresiva. Los temas por momentos se pueden adentrar en terrenos de doom metal o de post, pero lo que aquí predomina es sobre todo la ambientación tan bien recreada que profundiza y ahonda en las fuerzas de la naturaleza de manera acertada. INTO DE VOID (2016)

Segundo larga duración para esta banda polaca que podríamos encuadrar dentro del metal extremo, con influencias clara del death melódico, mezclado con algo de black y con un sonido agresivo pero limpio que hasta puede llegar a sonar moderno. "Into the Void" despacha en poco más de cuarenta minutos un trabajo que no acabará de agradar del todo al seguidor más black de la escena, hay cosas que no están del todo pulidas, riffs repetitivos, baterías a mil por hora en ciertas secciones y un intento de cantar de manera gutural o agresiva que chirría por el simple echo de sonar demasiado limpias y metidas con calzador. Tal vez lo mejor del álbum sea que los temas al ser bastante extensos dejan bastante hábitats dentro de ellos y podemos encontrar algunos variados cambios de ritmos que giran entre el death melódico, el black-death y algunas secciones progresivas, por lo demás un puñado de buenas ideas que no se amoldan del todo al sonido más black. DIS MANIBVS (2016)

Quinto larga duración para los alemanes que siguen profundizando en un sonido propio en donde hay cabida para el black mas tradicional, la épica, y algunos elementos que los adentran en terrenos más folk con algunos arreglos que podríamos situar cercanos al post. Realmente cada nueva obra del dúo alemán se antoja como una obra a tener en cuenta y aunque no vayan a servir como referente del genero, también es cierto que sirve para asentar su sonido y situarlos en un lugar privilegiado dentro de la escena, en un nicho que encaja en la dirección más tradicional del black, dejando cierto espacio para algunas partes innovadores que sirven de nexo de unión entre ambas corrientes. "Dis Manibvs" es un álbum extenso, en donde se ha realizado un buen trabajo en el plano de las guitarras, buenos riffs que la mayoría de la veces suenan melódicos y melancólicos, tristes y fríos y sobre los que se asientan el grueso de las composiciones en donde la batería se ve un tanto superada por la epicidad de las composiciones. En cuanto a las voces siguen una dirección bastante cruda y desgarrada, sonando en la profundidad más cavernosa. El álbum en si suena épico y oscuro, seguramente gracias también a los arreglos de teclados de casi todas las composiciones, permitiendo en aquellas más largas, disfrutar de variados pasajes. Imperium Dekadenz han regresado con una obra muy a tener en cuenta, que seguramente el paso de los años situará en el lugar que se merece. (8,7).
