AION OF APOPHIS (2017)

Sleepwalker llega al segundo larga duración con este nuevo proyecto suyo que casi que viene a sustituir a su anterior "A Transilvania Funeral" que lleva un tanto parado desde hace cuestión de cinco años. "Aion of Apophis" contiene siete temas de un black de un estilo que casi podríamos definir como personal. Lo cierto es que Sleepwalker a trabajado y madurado su sonido con respecto a anteriores entregas y para este nuevo trabajo todo está mucho más cuidado. En lineas generales este álbum mantiene una línea bastante continuista que va meciendo al oyente en un estado melancólico, cercano a la depresión de la mano de un buen número de riffs de ritmo lento, algunos semejantes entre si, que convierten este "Aion of Apophis" en una obra que desprende melancolía y desesperación en cada nota. Cuando la velocidad cobra protagonismo, las voces se vuelven agresivas, un tono más violento y directo se sobrepone al ambiente más mortecino de las partes lentas, pero la presencia de una sutil línea de riffs en segundo plano acrecienta si cabe una sensación de frialdad ya de por si presente en todo el álbum. Pocos o más bien escasos son los arreglos de cuerda o ambientales que podemos encontrar en los temas, pero su presencia sirve para acentuar el carácter oscuro y sensaciones como la muerte o la soledad cobran forma. Estos proyectos de un sólo músico, siempre sirven para desnudar la personalidad de quien está detrás de ellos y ofrecen una versión muy particular del estilo, Sleepwalker, realmente sabe lo que se trae entre manos, ha entregado un álbum muy compacto con una visión cruda, melancólica y oscura del black metal, con sentimientos muy presentes como la desesperación y la melancolía, que a nada que mejore algunos aspecto como el de la batería nos deparará buenos momentos. LLUVIA

ENIGMA (2017)

Ambicioso trabajo el de Lord Vast en este tercer larga duración, una obra que para comenzar cuenta con una edición en 3 vinilos, toda una proeza en los tiempos que corren. Sin embargo considero que la música y la obra de Lluvia están a la altura de semejante decisión después de un trabajo de fondo de como mínimo cinco años. No vamos a  descubrir excesivas diferencias con pasadas obras de Lluvia, sin embargo es cierto que los seis temas que contiene este "Enigma" está  mucho más trabajados en la búsqueda de un black más épico y sobre todo emotivo, manteniendo esa esencia de soledad y de contacto con las fuerzas de la naturaleza, dejando entrever gran desesperación, aspecto que por momentos llega rayar casi en el depresivo. Aunque se mantienen esas guitarras distorsionadas de riffs infinitos, con toque crudos a la vez que en ciertas partes melódico sy melancólicos, la batería crea un muro de sonido que aporta violencia y personalidad a la propuesta, acompañadas por esas voces de Lord Vast que desprenden soledad y sufrimiento a partes iguales, todo el conjunto a ganado en épica y en emotividad al sonar más compacto y denso , al mismo tiempo que se aprecian influencias como la del doom, logrando el álbum también adentrarse en en terrenos atmosféricos. En definitiva Lord Vast sigue por el buen camino, cumple las expectativas levantadas con su anterior álbum "Eternidad Solemne" a base de un sonido muy influenciado por el black escandinavo. (8,3).

Hɪðəˈtu (2018)

Primer larga duración para está formación griega sobre la que no hay mucha información en cuanto a line-up. Procedentes de Atenas entregan siete temas en poco más de cuarenta minutos, enfocando y dejando influenciar su música por una vertiente actual dentro del black metal. Llama la atención desde el inicio la temática de su música, sus letras tienen una fuerte carga social de renuncia y repudio hacia el capitalismo, de ahí el título del álbum, algo así cómo "romper la roca" y que aleja de la temática más oscura predominante en el género. Estamos ante un álbum de una sonido compacto, trabajado y elaborado que logra trasmitir una gran intensidad sobre todo gracias a la agresividad de las voces, desprendiendo rabia y odio en cada tema, una intensidad que se ve incrementada por momentos a golpe de batería. Desde luego que otro punto a favor de este trabajo es lo variado de la propuesta que aún centrándose en ofrecer un black directo y de corte actual como comentaba anteriormente, es capaz de alternar momentos que rozan lo atmosférico, en donde arremeten la mayoría de las veces con voces casi que corales, habladas, de gran fuerza e intensidad, complementándose a la perfección con el conjunto y la línea del álbum sin desentonar en ningún momento. Hay también algunos buenos riffs esparcidos a lo largo de este trabajo, que en un primer momento no llaman la atención pero que si acaban por aflorar como elementos en torno a los cuales se va asentando su música. No podemos decir que estamos ante un trabajo monótono, más bien todo lo contrario, aún siguiendo una línea que no arriesga en exceso, podemos disfrutar y apreciar un álbum repleto detalles, intenso y cargado de mensaje. Δοξολογία (2018)

Poquísimo tiempo el transcurrido entre la edición de su primer Ep y el lanzamiento de su primer álbum que ven la luz con una diferencia de poco más de un par de meses. La mente creativa detrás de esta one man band parece que tiene entre sus manos un interesante proyecto al que va dando salida de manera ordenada. Ocho temas contiene este "Δοξολογία" que continúa con las buenas sensaciones dejadas con su anterior Ep "Hossana" y es que Eriphion consigue recoger y lo que es más importante, sonar en la más pura tradición del metal heleno de los años noventa. No debe de ser tomada esta comparación como un punto negativo hacia su música, sino más bien todo lo contrario, al considerar que la tradición helena dentro del black, es una de influencia más que interesante y necesaria en la escena y nada mejor que una banda que con su sonido consiga traerla otra vez a la actualidad. La propuesta de este Δοξολογία" en sus ocho temas abarca influencias de toda la década de los noventa ya que es capaz de sonar agresivo con un toque de melodía, combinando la rapidez y un estilo más directo con partes más lentas, en donde la música se sustenta en unos riffs  muy bien engarzados y las voces densas que se van arrastrando sobre sobre el oyente. Aquí podemos distinguir influencias de Kawir en lo musical o de Necromantia en cuanto a atmosféra. No estamos ante un álbum oscuro, tal vez denso, pero no oscuro, en donde destacamos tanto las voces por su gravedad como los riffs, que muchas veces ofrecen otras perspectiva dentro del black, logrando acercarse a terrenos del metal extremo y es ahí donde tal vez el oyente encuentre ciertas similitudes con Rotting Chirst, en alguna que otra melodía más folk. Un trabajo interesante, con un ojo puesto en la tradición griega, sonando al mismo tiempo actual, capaz de recoger y aunar el pasado con el presente. (8).

ARRAYED CLAWS (2017)

Hace tiempo ya que la banda italiana Lorn se ha hecho una habitual en esta publicación. No podemos olvidar la solida carrera del combo italiano que comienza a finales del pasado siglo y ni mucho menos el renacer que parece que están sufriendo gracias a sus dos últimos lanzamientos que no han dejado indiferente al público. Desde luego que su propuesta es un tanto inclasificable, adentrándose en terrenos atmosféricos, vanguardistas, industriales, etc ..., pero desde luego que han conseguido un sonido diferente, casi que único y sobre todo que lo han hecho reconocible y propio. Cinco temas nuevos, siendo los dos últimos instrumentales, es lo que no podemos encontrar en este trabajo. Un trabajo que sigue marcado sobre todo por el uso de estructuras repetitivas que dotan a su música de un mantra, pero que sin embargo a crecido en el empleo de las voces, ganando mayor presencia y peso en conjunto. A destacar el buen hacer en cuanto a elaboración y cantidad del riffs, sin lugar a dudas la crudeza de alguno de ellos, tanto en solitario como al combinarlos con otros elementos hacen de este trabajo una propuesta más árida, desoladora y cruda. También el uso de elementos ambientales siempre ha tenido un peso importante en la música de Lorn y desde luego que este "Arrayed Claws" no iba a ser menos y desde luego que vuelven a tener la habilidad de colocarlos de manera estratégica para conseguir una función de descanso y ruptura con la parte más black y agresiva de su música, así como estos pasajes logran tener una gran importancia a la hora del conjunto final. HOSSANA (2018)

Cada cierto tiempo surge en la escena un grupo que sin esperar mucho de él consigue llamar la atención del oyente desde que le das al play. Creo que no me estoy equivocando para nada al afirmar que este joven?, grupo? griego irrumpe con buen pie en la escena de la mano de este Ep de cuatro temas. No ofrecen nada nuevo, su sonido es muy clásico, similar al de bandas de mediados noventa, pero si que está muy trabajado, para estar ante su primer lanzamiento lo cierto es que se lo han currado. Como comentaba anteriormente su sonido suena muy clásico, pero los temas no se quedan en una mera copia de bandas de los noventa ya que le han añadido al sonido su propio sello personal. Capaces de sonar crudos, enlazando riffs brutales, pero también densos y lentos remarcando una ambientación y una atmósfera que está presente en todas las composiciones y que dota a su sonido de oscuridad y cierto misticismo. Hossana sorprende por muchas cosas, desde que es el primer lanzamiento de la banda, hasta por el regusto a clásico que deja al terminar, pasando por lo acertado de las composiciones, su variedad, capaz de acercarse al doom o al death y sobre todo por la magnifica ambientación lograda. ITNUVETH

PAGAN MARTYRS (2018)

Casi que fieles a su cita anual con sus fans ya tenemos nuevo material de Itnueveth, en este caso no se trata de un álbum completo sino de un Ep de cuatro temas, siendo dos de ellos de corte instrumental y sirviendo de apertura y cierre de este lanzamiento. El tiempo ha pasado, lejos queda ya 2013 cuando este proyecto arrancaba de la mano de Volundr y Lianne Krossburner y la edición al siguiente año de su primer álbum " The Way of the Berserker", y aunque la esencia de la banda en cuanto a temática y estilo sigue vigente a día de hoy, no es menos cierto que el paso de los años y la incorporación de nuevos miembros ha hecho que Itnuveth logren alcanzar la madurez como banda en plenitud de facultades. En este nuevo Ep, y como un paso necesario, ha surgido la figura de Adalsteinn a la batería para acabar de dotar al sonido de Itnuveth de mayor empaque y personalidad. No se a ciencia cierta el peso que Adalsteinn y Vàli han tenido a la hora de componer los temas que se ofrecen en este "Pagan Martyrs" pero si que es cierto que parece que en el sonido ha ganado peso los instrumentos folk, supongo que es una sensación que surge debido a los dos temas instrumentales y a las intros de los otros dos temas, al mismo tiempo que la vertiente pagan también cobra mayor protagonismo. Por su supuesto no podemos olvidarnos de lo que siempre estuvo ahí y que es seña de identidad de la banda a lo largo de estos años. Los riffs de Volundr siguen sonando increíbles, en el justo punto entre pagan, dureza y melodía; todo ello tampoco estaría completo sin las voces densas, profundas y agresivas de Funedëim. Esta vez nos han fallado en el sentido de no haber editado un álbum completo, pero bien es cierto que los cuatro temas que se encuentran en el Ep abren un nuevo horizonte musical para la banda, que desde luego solo puede suponer buenas noticias en un futuro (8).

FORAKT, HUT OG DØD (2018)

Las huestes de Gulnar vuelven a la carga después de trascurridos poco más de dos años desde la edición de su primer álbum. Este EP consta de un par de temas, que sin embargo por extensión de los mismos rebasa la media hora de duración. "Among the Dead" es el encargado de abrir este EP, un tema extenso de casi diecinueve minutos que contiene en su interior diferentes partes, es decir aún viniendo estructurado como un único tema la sensación que produce en el oyente es de estar ante varios temas que han sido unidos para conformar uno sólo. Después de un inicio un tanto atmosférico, las guitarras y la agresividad del black toma protagonismo, ofreciendo una descarga de violencia y contundencia que se ve a veces detenida por alguna parte más ambiental que sirve de puente hacia otra más voraz, en donde predominan en general un black oscuro e infecto, de ritmo acelerado en donde destacamos la presencia de una batería marcada que da empaque y sustento a la propuesta, acompañada de unas voces infectas y oscuras, creando un cuadro bastante putrefacto, frío e insano. El segundo tema "Tomhet" es una revisión de Burzum, un tema instrumental de ritmo lento que poco a poco va recreando un paisaje frío, medieval y de contacto con la naturaleza, que sin embargo deja traslucir una maldad en segundo plano, tornándose inquietante e impredecible, capaz de aglutinar ciertas influencias folk de manera perfecta. Sin lugar a dudas estamos ante una obra más que recomendable, sobre todo por el contraste entre los temas aquí ofrecidos que van desde una propuesta más directa y concisa del tema inicial a otra más intimista y ambiet del segundo tema. BLACK SPIRIT

Poca información hay al respecto sobre Black Spirit, lo único concreto es que proceden de Aragón y han nacido este año, seguramente estemos dándole el cartel de banda cuando de lo que estemos hablando sea de one man band. De igual manera se acaban de editar su primer demo "In a Vortex to the Infinite Night" que contiene cuatro temas publicado en cassette por Infinite Night Records a doble cara. La música es cruda y gusta de una producción sucia y oscura en donde las voces parecen salidas del abismo y la oscuridad, acompañadas de unos riffs ostentosos y podridos, que todo hay que decirlo, crean y acercan la propuesta al black depresivo. La primera toma de contacto en forma de esta demo inicial deja unas pautas que seguramente marcaran el devenir en futuras ediciones, crudeza y depresión en estado puro. Como comentaba con anterioridad la demo ha sido editada por el sello Infinite Night Records, para haceros con una copia podéis poneros directamente en contacto con el sello.

AETERNUM (2018)

Con una formación remozada con respecto a su primera demo, los madrileños Wargo editan su primer larga duración que contiene siete temas de black metal sombrío, podrido y crudo. Un sonido potente, construido a base de riffs variados, de diferentes palos y estilos, que traen elementos del thrash, del pagan, pero sobre todos crudos y directos, los cuales se ven acompañados de unas voces agresivas que transmiten violencia y oscuridad y en donde no podemos olvidar que los textos están en castellano, lo que le da un matiz distinto a la propuesta. Un álbum que si bien es cierto que sigue una línea continuista, no lo es menos tampoco que sabe construir y ofrecer diferentes estilos y sensaciones, sensaciones que van desde la frialdad, la oscuridad, la podredumbre y el paganismo de mano de su vena más tradicional dentro del black, a otras más violentas que viene acompañada de la violencia de la batería en ciertas partes, capaz de que su música suene aplastante y demoledora;  a la par que las pocas partes de ritmo más lento puedan acercarlos a terrenos más depresivos, intimistas o pagan, sin perder, la agresividad y toque de melodía en segundo plano. En definitiva, estamos ante un trabajo muy completo que logra sonar clásico, a la vez que agresivo y oscuro, ejecutado de manera profesional permitiendo encontrar el equilibrio justo entre crudeza, violencia, paganismo y melancolía.
