BLESSING OF AMURDAD (2021)

1. The Stench of the Wretched (Forsake Him!) 09:03
Is it in his name that thou hath forsaken the truth? The truth! The holy one! For thou hath the stench of the wretched (holy one) And all his riches clothe thine back The truth! The holy one! The truth! The holy one! Treachery, most foul heretical mind, The truth! The holy one! Stand with me, before the shrine of holy fire! Naught is good, all is wrought It is I who has been chosen by our true Lord, reveal yourself jealous one! Reveal yourself, reveal! Reveal yourself jealous one Come forth and be undone Reveal yourself jealous one Come forth and be undone by thine divinity! The truth! The holy one! The truth! The holy one! Come forth and see the truth The truth! The holy one! Thou hath the stench of the wretched All his riches clothe thine back
2. The Gaze of Ahura (The King) 04:43
Wretched keeper of the flame seeker
Hath thou born witness to the perversion of thine teachings?
Ah, for naught, as it is I who invokes the blessings eternal of our Lord

Be it not for me, never would the mortal creature
Dare ascend to the divine

The King! Blessed in the gaze of Ahura!

The King! Gilded in devotion
And when the feeble ascend to the shrine of our lord
We shall refuse entry and ascension!
Entry and ascension!

The King! Blessed in the gaze of Ahura!
For they hath not shown
Their purity and devotion
Their flesh is rotten and their eyes bleed!

(Only the most devout may heed his call, for his name is glory and his gaze fruitful!)
The King! Blessed in the gaze of Ahura!
The King! Gilded in devotion!
3. Atash Bahram 04:25
   Oh mortal one
Doth thou dare stand before me?
Oh mortal one
Doth thou dare heed his word?

I beseech these offerings immortal one
Doth thou dare refuse me?
These gifts of men, doth thou dare?
4. The Cry of Filth (Agerept) 06:54
Breath deep from the sacred flame, heed my word
As it is in his name that thou doth forsake thine heresy

Scoured and flayed!
The wretched doth rise as the sun in the morn
For he hath betrayed!
The filthy doth cry from the rotten tomb!

Hath thou begged for forgiveness?
Speak the truth, speak the truth, holy one!
Hath thou not sought his blessing?
Speak the truth, speak the truth, holy one!

In his name doth thou forsake thine heresy?

Scoured! Decayed!
The wretched doth rise as the sun in the morn
For he hath betrayed!
The filthy lay dead in a rotten tomb!

The cry of filth has found thee wretched and unclean
For he hath bestowed upon thee glory
Heed the whispers of our Lord
For he hath forsaken the true flame!

The sacred flame, besmirched
Heed this word, as in his name
Thou hath done great harm to thine kin
(And shall never forsake thine heresy)

Dare not beg for forgiveness?
Speak but lies, speak but lies holy one!
Dare not seek his true blessing?
Speak but lies, speak but lies holy one!
5. Birth of Flesh (Nama Karana) 05:52
Before thee, the shrine of immortality
Witness this testament to divine purity
Dare ascend, birth of flesh yet be weary
Thou shalt Concede thine mortality and pray!

The treachery!
Forgiveness from the holy
Forgiveness from the glorious one!
What treachery!

Yet gazing through the shrine as a carcass sprawled upon
Drapery is the treachery of mortal lust
He who is wary of the treacherous nature of mortal flesh shall never stray
From the path divine

He shall forsake his riches and imbibe from the chalice
(From the chalice of our lord!)
Thine flesh soaked by the rot of mortality
(Heed the blessings of our lord!)
He shall Forsake his riches and imbibe from the chalice
(From the chalice of our lord!)
Come forth now, and for eternity
(Heed the blessings of our lord!)

Refusal! The ignorance of man
Cast down and delivered to thine putrid kin!

Birth of flesh, unforgiven
From the holy, the glorious one!
Never attain his purity
Feeble mortal, cast down for treachery

(In the service of his light)
6. Afrinagan 03:39
7. Oath of Purity (Amahraspand) 07:57
Dare not betray thine oath to Ahura
Lest thee be willing to forsake thine divinity

Are ye he who shalt forsake his riches
(his riches spent)
Witness the glory of our holy Lord

Forsake them! Only his name is glory
(Our holy Lord)
Bestowed upon thee by our holy Lord!
Our holy, our holy Lord
Our holy, our holy Lord

He who doth speak good words and is of kind spirit

Come forth unclean one!
Cast aside these dispersions of immortality
The blessings of purity
Thou weareth a wreath upon thine scalp
In worship to the feeble, now cast asunder!
Invoke his name and be forgotten!
Thine hopes in true divinity

Our holy, our holy Lord
His riches, his riches spent

Forsake them! Only his name is glory
(Our holy Lord)
Bestowed upon thee by our holy Lord!
Our holy, our holy Lord
Our holy, our holy Lord

Come forth unclean one,
cast aside thine immortality...
The blessings of purity...

Come forth unclean one
(Unclean! Unclean!)
Cast aside thine immortality
The blessings of purity
(Unclean! Unclean!)
Thou weareth a wreath upon thine scalp

Thou hath betrayed thine oath to Ahura
And thus forsaken thine divinity
Beseeched upon thee true riches, worship them
For thou shalt attain true glory
Bestowed upon thee by our holy Lord, Ahura
8. The Rite of Dominion (Shehrevar) 08:59
Shehrevar! Ancient whispers of holy, heed my call! The blessed spirit! In thine name doth be bask in the blood of mortals... In search of thine wisdom Seeking the rite of dominion In thine name, the impurities of flesh shall be smitten The rite, the rite of dominion The rite, the rite of the damned I drink from thine wisdom, attain the rite The rite, the rite of dominion Cast to the chasm of dark where no man may prevail Shehrevar! Ancient whispers of holy, I call thee! Oh blessed spirit! In thine name doth we bask in the blood of mortals... Feast upon these offerings Oh holy one! These gifts of men are but a shrine to thine divinity Yet as we seek thine blessing, we are weary of the earth And as we have thine blessing, we are weary of the earth Yet as I give mine blessing, be not weary of the earth And as I give mine blessing, be not weary of the earth The rite of dominion The rite of the damned I feast upon thine offerings, oh mortal one Beware these gifts of men Are but a shrine to mine divinity And drink of mine wisdom Through the rite, the rite of dominion In thine name, the impurities of flesh shall be smitten!

LUSTRAL PURGE IN CERULEAN BLISS (2021)

1. Agoraphobic Solipsist 06:01
There aren’t truths in matter. My eternal wandering on this land is a desert, towards which I fall in flight from my flash. A hoarse voice, older than being, detaches me from my senses; in my second life I run... I run against that bygone litany, far from the visceral churning. Now I am a fragment, a reflection that twists on itself. Now I see Cronus’ incessant alacrity, poison searing in the arteries; the constant, repeated persistence of self; the cardiac vertigo, even the very vibration of the frames of reality, as in a liquid painting that exists, in unstable balance... On the verge of collapse, enjoying the thrill of the everlasting thwarted fall.
From atop the most harrowing vertigo, I contemplate with desperate sentience, chimeras unveiling and disclosing; salvific hallucinations unravel, among the crystalline clouds of unknowing whereat I let myself fall.
2. Carnal Denouement 05:03
I reawaken twisted in myself, in a hostile painting. My flesh writhes, cracks, melts. Each cell like gypsum, and then sand, in a body crusher. Pain sublimates itself in a cathartic abandon . Hallucinations and vertigo followed one another, although my eyes cried abundant blood, imprisoned in nailed lids, searing magmatic shrouds.
While elder aeons unveiled themselves to my sight, my vertebrae arched, breaking and slivering; their splinters pierced me and in a mute grimace my heels joined my neck. I can’t breath, and in a silence, which my muffled shrieks would like to fill, I glimpse sulphurous liquid clouds around me, engulfing me in their obscure cloak. Looming over my mangled remains, they formed arches and vaults, which widen more and more reaching the distant plateaus.
While with vain efforts I try to separate my lips , I observe some purple fumes coming out of it mirroring those vapors that previously overwhelmed me. A chilling northern wind blows through them, pushing a hoarse pulse, among which I see a discern voice: The aforesaid voice, thus speaks “In human form you are not allowed here”.
3. Lustral Purge in Cerulean Bliss 06:14
Through delirium and mystery, fleeting borders lie all around. The earth slips under my feet, wrapping them in mud while the winds ravage and sharpen this boundless plain. I detect the streaming flow of the rivulets like veins’ turbid emissaries. Now they channel their flows towards valleys, invigorated by incessant rains. But the basin where these scents pour has become the color of blood. Whenever I have tried to succumb to the shade of hidden firs I’ve been overwhelmed by merciless floods; the cold of thousands winters: illusion of the immeasurable time; the dark of eternity, inhabits of gods’ deception. The rain, which became hail and then turned into silent snow, buried me in the extraordinary silence of this refuge in the middle of nowhere. I implore this austere land to disclose its desires and its vice, and now I see the profound secret of my sin of being. Delirium of bodies, ferment of void. Harmony in everything, symphony in nothingness. The moment I perceive the core, tumult of being, the ethereal paths expire in the smoky aether, collapsed in void. There is everything in the absence of nothing.
4. Altopiano Celeste 07:22   instrumental
5. Spiritual Onset 04:21
A crackle could be heard, in the distance: the sound of dry leaves creaking as they burn. The naked ice crunched and shattered while the breeze blew as a gentle embrace. Formerly he had envisioned mysterical maelstroms and otherworldly darkness and radiance. In that surreal stillness, a glow of an albeit timid fire was an irresistible call in that frozen hellscape. He made his way through the fir’s branches (led by complete abnegation), grazing them with his numb fingers, unable to suffer the innumerable splinters cuts. Like stoic watchers, the moons were still reflecting their radiance on the thick snow blanket of the boundless taiga. When he finally found himself in the flesh lying moribund next to a bonfire, the quiet revealed its plans: his true self in fact, before he expired, was intent on predicting an absurd future in which he would have met him as a specter in that same place, after the thaw.
6. Saw Thee Quietly Inurned 05:10
I saw thee quietly inurned by expert but decrepit hands. And yet the bora came to disperse the ashes before they reached the casket. The hermit contemplated astonished the transience of the powders, that had once generated and nourished an entire existence, now merging with the aether. Sic Transit Gloria Mundi! But then the astonishment became pain, the pain refusal. His gaze tore through the infinite, his shoutings pierced every hollow to the center of the Earth. And after the bora came the mistral. The winds ceased and was the lull. Seasons followed one another. And that day forgotten, that echo vanished and sorrow dispersed. Knelt, with clasped hands he sighed: “Cupio dissolvi... Cupio dissolvi!”
7. The Hermit Strums a Mournful Dirge 08:03
(Adapted from Rainer Maria Rilke’s “Duino Elegies”)

In the end, those torn from their life too early no longer need us: we wean ourselves from what is earthly, gently, as from the womb. But we, who need such great conundrums, how often blissful progress springs from grief: could we ever be, us, without the dead? The eternal flow always carries us within the two realms, for ever... And drowns our voices in both.

DAWN OF A DARK AGE - INTERVIEW

1. Dawn of a Dark Age was born in 2014 by Euronymus and Buran; Why did you decide to create the band? Why did you choose the name Dawn of a Dark Age and what does it refer to?

The first core of Dawn of a Dark Age was made by me and Buran. I decided to create the band to insert the folk elements of my region Molise in Black Metal, with my main instrument: the clarinet. It was a great challenge to introduce a new instrument like the clarinet into the Black Metal. The name was initially inspired by a vision of how our world would change in the years to follow, and sadly it was foreboding considering what has been happening for a few years...

2. Throughout these years you have overcome important changes in the line-up of Dawn of a Dark Age, can we say that Dawn of a Dark Age is an almost own band with a sound marked by you today? from today?

I have personally created everything from the very beginning, and therefore the various stylistic and musicians changes on the various album were determinated by the need to experiment new ways, both compositional and expressive. I am happy that this uniqueness is perceived in the music of Dawn of a Dark Age, I have been working to reach this result  from the beginning.

3. Both in your previous album and in the most recent one you have embraced a theme more related to history, why does this change of theme occur? Do you feel more comfortable dealing with themes related to Italy's past than with other more black's own?

After making the "The Six Elements" saga, I didn't think about continuing with Dawn of a Dark Age. I thought I had closed a circle, which instead reopened when I started studying and documenting myself on the heroic deeds of my direct ancestors: the Samnites. A heroic people, bitter enemy of the Romans, on whom it inflicted many defeats, before capitulating at the hands of the Roman Dictator Cornelius Silla in 82 BC. Little is known about them and therefore my intent is to rediscover this fantastic people and give them back the role they deserve in the history of the Italic peoples and of Italy itself.

4. It is true that the theme of your music has changed in your last two albums but it is also true that this new album offers a much more warlike and aggressive vision than your previous work. How do you face the development of the musical plane of this new album and why did you choose the theme of “Le Forche Caudine”? What attracted you to it?

As mentioned in the previous question, the Samnites defeated the Romans in more than one battle, and that of the Caudine Forks has remained in history as the greatest humiliation of Rome in its glorious history. Because with a clever battle technique the Samnites managed to cage 16,000 Romans in a valley, unable to escape. Except that the Samnite embratur (the general of the army) Gaius Pontius, not thinking of having all those soldiers in his hand, did not make a decision and asked his father Herennio for advice. His father advised him either to let them go or to kill them all. Gaius Pontius instead decided for humiliation, and after having robbed them of weapons, horses and armor, he made them pass with the tunic under a game of swords. Those who refused were killed. Think what a great shame for the mighty Rome! Musical development all happened naturally: I was on the spot where it happened in 321 BC. and I had to recreate what happened in those terrible days for the Romans. From arriving with the horses to ambush, resistance and dishonor. So undoubtedly compared to the previous "The Osca Table" this album has more military character and the events are very different from the sacredness and spirituality of the Osca Table.

5. I suppose that all the layers and intensities that are offered in "Le Forche Caudine" has not been a simple process. How have you faced the whole process of composition and recording of the album? What musicians have collaborated in this musician? the figure of Emanuele Prandoni on vocals and drums, and what do you think he has contributed to the final result of the album?

As already said I imagine the story as in a movie, I know where it begins and I know where I want it to end, and in the middle there are all the events that have taken place. It is my way of composing on a large scale, not thinking of small parts but of large parts, where every riff, rhytmic cell or melody is developed and returns often but varied every time throughout the record. Emanuele Prandoni is my right arm and of course his way of singing and playing the drums has characterized the record massively. For the other instruments I always call musicians whose color or tone I want. For "Le Forche Caudine" I needed trombones, euphoniums and special instruments that would create a particular atmosphere with a Middle Eastern flavor. For this Darbuka, Mandoloncello, Clarinets and other instruments were used to create this very visionary but quite realistic setting.

6. For some time now and unlike your beginnings you have been using Italian in your texts, is it something necessary to end up immersing the listener in your proposal? Is it easier for you to express yourself in your native language and thus complete your proposal?

Speaking of Samnites and Italic peoples you can understand how important it is to give them their mother tongue. I could not think of writing Italic music with English lyrics, as if you think that the BM has as its main feature the link with the territory and the traditions and customs of each country. Early Satyricon, Darkthrone, Ulver, Burzum and other bands speak in their native language (although many have deviated to English over time). If you think of Ukrainian and Swedish bands, each of them expresses itself in the language of their own country.

7. I suppose that the interest and, above all, the broad background in the history of a people like the Romans will be more than enough to bring out a good handful of albums focused on these themes. Are you familiar with the work of the Spanish writer of historical novel Santiago Posteguillo? Where do you find and why do you choose the themes to be dealt with in your albums?

Beware that my ancestors the Romans fought them and did not have dinner together! Making this clarification the themes and arguments I dig them to create the saga as complete as possible, so I already have in mind the next chapter on what theme linked to the Samnites will be. I do not know the writer you mentioned but I inform myself, I try to avoid taking inspiration from the books because they inevitably bind you in some way to the written words and do not leave you the freedom to imagine some scenes. I read a lot but I try to take only some ideas and information that I need for the plot of the disc.

8. How would you describe the sound of the album for those who haven't heard it yet and what do you intend to convey to the listener with your music?

It is really difficult if not impossible to describe an album in words, but I can say that listening to the last two works you just have to try to relax and let yourself be transported into the distant past. Of course the album are thought of as cinematic stories and therefore it is not possible to think of them as separate songs. It is all connected by a thread, from the first to the last second.

9. The French record label Antiq Records has been in charge of editing the album. Why did you decide to work with them for the editing and recording of the album?

Antiq is a label very attentive to historical productions and therefore it was the perfect label for these albums. They have an attention to detail (just see the limited edition Boxset albums to understand what I mean) and a really good roster, so it's an honor for me to be with them.

10. Joanna Maeyens has been in charge of the artwoork of the album, why did you decide to work with her? What does the cover represent and how does it relate to the content of the album?

Joanna is an incredible artist, gifted with a unique sensitivity in the panorama. As in the previous "La Tavola Osca" also "Le Forche Caudine" are the fruit of her imagination after having listened to the album and the indications on the unfolding of the story. In particular, the last cover represents the Samnites who, hidden behind the mountains, wait for the Romans to ambush them. If you look closely there are many details that are not dictated by the imagination, but by a historical study that has been transformed into this artwork in total harmony with the music expressed.

11. How were his beginnings in music: first concerts you attend, first albums you buy, what happened in your life pushed you to want to be a musician?

I started in the street band in my village (Agnone), where I was the last to join, and my mother had to choose between trumpet and clarinet. I don't think she knew the two instruments and he cast lots, and so the clarinet became my job ... The first record that shocked me was Led Zeppelin II, a friend of mine had recorded it on cassette and when the central section started by Whole Lotta Love was a blow to the stomach that I still remember today. While the metal brought him to my country Enrico Di Camillo, a dear friend who had moved from Rome. The first tapes were Ozzy's Diary of a Madman, Metallica's And Justice for All, Iron Maiden and Appetite for Destruction. My first concerts in the early 90s I think were Megadeth and Deep Purple in original lineup, in addition to the last Pink Floyd tour.

12. What album represents for you the essence of black metal? What recent albums have you bought?

It is difficult to hit a single album, let's say that in my idea there are bands that manage to make you smell the flavor of their territory and their roots and traditions. I could tell you Bergtatt by Ulver, but also Blood in Our Wells by Drudkh, as well as the coldness of the Mahem and the heat of the Rotting Christ. Recent purchases, even if from a few years ago, vinyls by Nehemah, Necromantia

13. What future plans do you have for Dawn of a Dark Age in terms of upcoming releases or reissues?

Dawn of ad Dark Age is a continuous laboratory always in turmoil, I'm working on the third chapter of the Samnites saga, and there will be many surprises compared to "La Tavola Osca" and "Le Forche Caudine".

14. Thank you very much for taking the time to answer these questions for Black Metal Spirit, if you want to add something for Dawn of a Dark Age fans, this is the place. I hope the questions are to your liking.

The pleasure is mutual, thanks to you and Black Metal Spirit for helping me to spread stories of other times of the Italian peninsula and the only thing I can add is that we underground bands keep ourselves alive thanks to your support, and we always try to keep the quality of the proposal high. If you like our way of making music and telling the stories of our ancestors, I suggest you take a look at our Bandcamp page.

TALES OF OTHERTIME (2021)
Fall into the tunnel of eternity"

Black magick reckoning

On contact the power revealed
Verdant bolts pierce sanity and steel
Antecedent, imminent
Aeons pass, one thousand stars burn and collapse

So the cosmos unfold
Their secrets and knowledge untold
As space-time unlocks in my soul
I channel the Stone
One with the earth and the stars
My mind soars and travels afar
And so now I see it all clear
I have been betrayed

Awakened, Self-disintegration
Inward, into nothingness
Dimensions unveiled
Outward, infinite passage through time

An answer most foul
The vile conjuror, a foe
Betrayal - the truth
The voice within the Serpent's Stone

Poisonous, Treachory, Traitorous, Deceived
Treaties now made with a long lost dynasty
Generations past, a forgotten scourge
The choice is nigh, a sulfurous pact with The Night

The great bane of Man
An Ancient Power
The Serpent Emperors of old
Dark legends of antiquity
The Dragon Kings shall rise once more
5. An Ode to Dragons 02:45   instrumental
6. Eternal Majesty Manifest 08:20
On wings of fire and ice The wind of the north to guide An army of beasts, ten thousand strong The Dragon Kings ride on Cavalry of Dragons summon the storm Lightning and shadows follow the horde Ophidian Soldiers of antiquity past Serpent Battalion gathering at the gates Siege of the Citadel King Conjuror, Mage-slayer Usurper, enthroned through malice Clash of armies, war of wizards Teeth met Talon Battles in the Sky On Wind We Ride Carrying Frost and Flame Bringers of Light Eternal Majesty Manifest In the wake of the welkin of chaos Our Might Descends From the tower he commands Conjuring magical creatures and lawless men Conjuror, breaker of Oaths, Collaborator with darkness On Wind We Ride Carrying Frost and Flame Casters of Blight Eternal Majesty Manifest In the wake of the welkin of chaos A Fight to the End Magic and spells collide As Enemies attack War, Destruction, Upheaval The walls of the Citadel crumble and fall "Now in the 9th Age of Elda, asleep for a millennia, I am now awakened, a conqueror, A New Era, A Black Dawn. I shall rule for a century, this is my domain!" Blood Soaked fields Of Smoke and Ash Dragonfire smoldering The Citadel has fallen The Queen made Empress Now the rule of Ancients Anointed in the ashes of the slain The grip of a new despot One evil supplanted for another's plot The evil of the Conjuror gone A new reign of terror had begun

NOKTVRN (2021)

4. Immortal 06:50
The fading rays of eternal light Longing for some skin to kiss An empty ocean, deep, awaits A nocturnal flood of gloom and grief It feels like a hundred years have gone, Yet another thousand to come Refused to live, refused to die Looking for the hand that feeds Carving my flesh, so deep Until every scar of life is drenched in blood Go, find the truth Your bloodlines won't belie you In the secret shelter of the night You'll find and reclaim your light Above, the sky is lit by fire Below, the endless dark Pulling me down, tearing me asunder, two worlds colliding and bursting apart Looking down my hands that bleed, Light's flooding my flesh, so deep Until every scar of life will be cleansed Cleanse me
5. Morgen 07:00

Leih mir dein reines Gewand

7. Haven 05:45
Fade away constantly Keep the pace of the world If you loose your track, You will cease to be in use Can't quite see the aim, Can't quite feel what's right Will I fall into the sky, Will the stars fall in my eyes Will I see the aim, Will I feel what's right Will I see the stars, Will I see what's right Will I see the aim, Will I feel what's right Will I see the stars, Will I see the end
